"This is going to suck." I groaned as Bellamy gently swung the hatch open. I pulled my helmet on as he did the same.
"Okay, I'll go first and back the Rover up so you don't have a far walk to go. We don't know the effectiveness of these yet, and I'd rather not test them together." I rolled my eyes but motioned him to go anyways.
As soon as he stepped outside I was on high alert. Watching him carefully as he slowly stepped in the rain. He got about five steps out before I heard his grunt of pain. His footfalls heavy as he started to pick up speed trying to reach the Rover.
"Bellamy! Bellamy, turn around!" I knew he couldn't hear my father who stood beside me as we watched him go faster on the slick ground. His steps slightly off balance and I could see he was going to fall if he wasn't careful.
"Shit, Bellamy!" I was already taking off as he started to slip and slide towards the back of the Rover. My feet sliding all over the place as I moved quickly. The rain pelting my suit but not hitting my skin. Nothing burned— yet.
Bellamy had reached the back door but struggled to get the latch released. His frustration and painful growls spurred me forward as I kept myself upright but smoothly slid every few steps.
"Move, Bell!" He heard me as I came sliding towards the door. Digging my foot in the mud, I stopped just in time and reached to get the latch, noticing the problem as soon as my glove slipped off the handle.
Bellamy groaned in pain as he tried to shield his body with the Rover. The rain making it through his suit. My jaw clenching as I quickly found our solution.
"Hold on." I took a deep breath in and yanked my glove from my left hand. A strangled cry leaving my lips as I yanked the hatch and freed it from the pin lock. With a grunt I pulled the door open and nearly shoved Bellamy inside. My body following as I vaulted up, my left hand extending once more out into the burning rain to slam the door shut and lock it from the inside.
"Bellamy, Persphyni, what the hell happened?" I couldn't hear my father as Bellamy's panting caught my attention.
Wordlessly I yanked off my helmet before pulling his off, hissing as the motion applied pressure to my left hand.
Bellamy's shaking fingers pulled his gloves off next as I grabbed two larger cans of clean water out for him. His panting rushing me as I began to panic.
I helped him get his suit off his upper body and started to clean his arms and chest with one of the cans. His hands working double time as he scrubbed at his arms. His hisses and grunts filled the Rover as I poured the water on both my left hand and Bellamy at the same time. The harsh stinging decreasing tremendously as I continued to help Bellamy.
"Bellamy. Persphyni, come in." I poured some water along Bellamy's back as he grabbed the walkie, his breathing heavy but less painful.
"You were right. The suit was useless." Bellamy's voice came out as a pant as he looked up at me.
"Mine lasted, I'm okay. We have plenty of water." I spoke up as Bellamy shakily brought the walkie towards me as I talked from over his shoulder. My can emptying as I used the last of it to wash off his neck and scalp.
It was when I was reaching to pull the second can from his grasp so I could soak my left hand a little more that the sensation started. I should have known something like this would happen.
A strangled cry ripped through my own lips as the soaking wet suit finally gave out. The water making it through the basically nonexistent material as the acidic substance began to burn my skin.
