"You have work after school?"

I stopped strumming the guitar as I look over at Connor laying on a table. I shook my head before picking at the strings for a moment. "No. Just this weekend."

"Making that money."

"Saving up to leave this place."

He smiles before looking around at everyone doing their own thing. I loved music class for this reason cause we could do what we wanted and when we had to do a lecture, it wasn't boring.

Conner and I were practicing writing random lyrics as I had the guitar in my arms. I was trying to find the write chord while he was reading off some lyrics he wrote.

"I'm ready to graduate but I don't want to leave."

"You planning on going to college?" I ask.

He nods before rolling on his stomach and folding his arms underneath him. "Yep. I want to major in science."

"Nerd." I chuckled.

"Shut up. What are you going to major in?"

I gave him a confused look before holding the guitar up. "Uh, this?"

"A musician." He smiles as I nod. "Just like your mom."

"Yep." I look down at the guitar.

"I really miss that woman."

I look up at him as he was staring at the floor. "Me too, Connor."

He looks up and slightly smiles. "I was in love with her."

"Oh please." I shook my head. "You didn't have a chance."

"I could of. Then I would have been your step dad."

Making a face, he laughs as I shook my head. "My mom was still married. Therefore she was off limits. I told you that so many times."

"Doesn't matter. I was still in love with her."

"I know. And she knew. Hell, my dad even knew."

He chuckles before looking at me. "She was just so beautiful. Inside and out. Her personality and looks."

I watch him for a moment before looking down at my guitar. "Alright enough with the memories. Are we almost done?"

"Not even close."

"Damn." I strummed the chords and stared at the floor for a moment before looking around. "When is the performance they're doing?"

"I don't know." He looks around. "Hey, teacher! When is the performance?"

The music teacher looks over at us. "In a month. Stop yelling across the room, Connor."

"Yes ma'am." He looks at me and shrugs. "Next month."

"I heard her." I look at the guitar before strumming a little and thinking. "What are we going to do for the performance?"

He shrugs. "Not sure. You gonna sing?"

"Not a singer."

"Which I find weird cause your mom was. She had the voice of an angel."

I nod as I look at him. "Yeah but I didn't take after her on that. Just a musician."

"You gonna play the drums? Guitar?"

"Not sure yet." I look around until my eyes landed on an old piano sitting alone. "How about the piano?"

"You play piano?"

I look at him before removing the guitar from me and standing up. "Of course. I can play any instrument." I walk over to the piano then open the wooden cover over the keys then seeing dust fly everywhere. "Christ."
