Chapter 35

Klaus

Rebekah is at a street bazaar while I'm talking to her threw the phone and Elijah. "Enough already with the family squabbling, come on, Nik! Even you can see that the situation has become awkward" Rebekah said to me. "There's nothing awkward about it, Hayley, Star, and Hope belong in the compound where they are safe. As much as I would like Elijah's help to kill Finn, if his delicate sensibilities are offended by the presence of Hayley's new husband, then he's welcome to continue sulking across the river" I tell them.

"As I have explained to you repeatedly, brother, my presence here in Algiers is purely to assemble allies. And given all the enemies we have afoot in the form of wayward siblings and ancient, maniacal aunt Dahlias, I would think that you would applaud my efforts" Elijah said annoyed as I stood on the balcony, watching Star help train the wolves. "Well, if it's my applause you seek, you shouldn't have dashed off in a bloody huff" I say mockingly. Rebekah sighs "alright, can you two at least try and stay focused on what's best for Hope's safety" Rebekah said. "I would like nothing more" Elijah says "I am doing exactly that" I say a little mad.

"See, you're on the same team, conflict resolved, crisis averted" Rebekah said before hanging up and I did the same. I looked down "you have to use your arms more" Star said and flipped one of the wolves so he was lying on his back. "See, if you would have used your arms, you could have blocked that" Star said and looked up at me, making me smile and she smiled back. "Okay, that's it for today" Star said and left, walking to our room. I headed to the lounge to talk to Hayley and Jackson "It's time to use our werewolf army. Finn and the woman who calls herself my sister are in this city. The wolves can help us pinpoint their location" I told them.

"No, we need all hands on deck here with Hope" Jackson said and my eyes widen in annoyance "I think you can compel humans to track your enemies" he finished. "Do my ears deceive me, or did you just give me an order? In my own home" I asked mad "this ain't about your ego, Klaus! It's about what's best for that little girl" Jackson said "how dare you question my intentions for my daughter" I said furriest. Hayley sighed "Jack, Klaus is right. Finn's body disappeared from the morgue, which means that he's either powerful enough to heal from that explosion, or Freya's powerful enough to save him. Either way, we're not finding them unless we send our best people out there" Hayley said.

Jackson sighs in frustration "I'm sure you and all your merry men will find them post haste" I told him. Jackson stands to look me in the eyes "just to be clear, I'm giving this order because Hayley is asking. Don't think for one second that I take orders from you" Jackson said before leaving. I stood there still looking at Hayley who looked a little mad. I turned around and left for Star's room. Star was just finishing putting a new shirt on before turning around to see me in her doorway.

"You know there's a thing called knocking" Star said with a smile. I shrugged with a smile "what's the fun in that". "So, what was the fight with Rebekah and Elijah all about" Star asked walking up to me. "Nothing you need to worry about" I said "come on Klaus, you know one way or another I'll get it out of you". "Oh really and how will you do that" I asked taking a step closer. "I have my ways, A, I torture it out of you" Star said and I chuckled "ad B"? Star pushed me in a chair and sat down on my lap, her legs around me. "B is much more fun".

I smiled "so, which would you prefer" Star asked? I smiled and leaned in "B" I said and she smirked "A it is" Star said and got out off of my lap. I chuckled and grabbed her, throwing her on the bed as she laughed. After everything we laid in bed, her lying in my arms. "So, now can you tell me" Star asked me and I chuckled "like I said it's nothing you need to worry about" I told her. She sighed and sat up on her elbows "Klaus I'm serious". I sighed and rubbed her arm "please don't worry about it, but to change the subject I want to show you something" I said and reached around Star, grabbing something out of my jean pocket.

I pulled out a necklace and Star lay on her back as I held it out in front of her. "It's for Hope" I said and Star looked at the blue dolphin with diamonds in it. "It's beautiful, a little big for her though" Star said. "I figured you could ware it until she grows up a little more" I told her. "Maybe" she said and sat the necklace down "I better get going" I told her and gave her a kiss before getting dressed and leaving.

Star

I laid in bed for a second before slipping on some jeans and a purple short sleeve shirt. I walked over to the small table and picked up the dolphin necklace and smiled as I studied it before setting it down. I turned around to see a vampire standing right behind me. I gasped just before he broke my neck and I feel to the ground as everything went dark.

Klaus

Jackson and Aiden are walking through the halls of the compound as they discuss their new assignment "so, what are we now? Errand boys" Aiden asked "I told you, Finn is powerful. If we're gonna find him, we need numbers, strength, and speed" Jackson said "wait, Jack. These new abilities of ours, people are already talking about what they can do individually. And they need to feel respected, not like cannon fodder! We're gonna lose good men" Aiden said but was cut off.

Jackson raised his voice "we're not gonna lose anybody if you stay alert! Hunt Finn down as a pack. Catch him off-guard. The sooner we find this freak, the sooner we can all relax". Aiden looks conflicted, but nods in agreement "and Aiden, I appreciate your concern. But why don't you let me worry about the pack" Jackson says and walks away, making Aiden be left alone in the hallway. Once he's gone,I come up behind him and approaches him. "Surprising how little he values your input. Especially since it was you who led the wolves during his self-imposed exile" I tell him.

Aiden turns to face me "what do you want, Klaus" "merely to offer advice that may save the lives of the good men. My brother Finn is not entirely sane, but he is clever. If you approach him he will see you coming, and he will destroy you. Instead, be strategic and move quietly. I'll handle the rest" I told him with a small smile. Aiden looks at me, obviously confused by my seeming kindness. After a moment, I walk away and walk into Star's room to see her not there anymore. I look around and see her phone sitting on the table.

"Star" I called out but there was no answer. "Klaus" I turned to see Hayley holding a note in her hand "this was in your room" she says and hands it to me. I read it fast. "What does it say" Hayley asked and I crumpled the paper in my hand "Finn has Star" I said mad.

Star

I quickly sat up and looked at my surroundings to see I was in one of the tombs in the cemetery. I rubbed my neck and looked around to see someone walking towards me. "Well, look who doesn't die" the guy said as my eyes went huge. "Mikael" I said in shock.
