Chapter 49

Klaus

I walked into the safe house and stopped when I saw Hope, Hayley, and Elijah but no Star. "Where is she" I asked mad as I walked up to Hayley "she left, she told me to watch Hope" Hayley said. "Where did she go" "I don't know, she was talking about giving herself over. Part of me assumes that she's looking for you before she goes" Hayley said and I sighed frustrated. You two are coming with me back to the compound" I said.

"Where Dahlia sent Josephine this morning, no way! We'd be sitting ducks, just like we will be here as soon as that spell breaks. Which is why we have to go" Hayley says and Elijah looks at her in alarm. "Jackson is out getting supplies, and then we're taking the wolves and we're headed to the Bayou" "the swamp? So my child can be protected by the very wolves Dahlia so easily defeated? Absolutely not" I yelled mad and Hayley pushes past Elijah and walks up to my face.

"You know, I am so over taking advice from you, Klaus. All it has done so far is put Hope in danger. From now on, I am going to do what I want to do, we're leaving" Hayley says and pushes past me, but I shove her back, stopping her. "You're not going anywhere unless I tell you to, especially when it is Star and my's daughter" I said mad. "I am not your prisoner, Klaus, Star told me to watch Hope and that is what I am going to do" Hayley said.

"Both of you, please, we're playing into Dahlia's hands" Elijah said "if Star is really out there then Klaus, you need to find her and try and talk her into not doing anything stupid". "Don't tell what to do when it comes to my wife, I know what Freya was planning, and I know how to kill Dahlia. Freya objected to us making a single weapon because it spoiled her plan" "Klaus". I turned around and saw Star standing in the doorway.

I looked at her mad "I told you to stay here" I said as she walks up to me. "I know, but" Star starts but was interrupted by the sound of Jackson's angry voice calling out from the entrance hall. "Klaus" Jackson yelled and ran in, carrying Aiden's body over his shoulder and another werewolf guard following behind him. "Jack:" Hayley says confused and see's Aiden's body and looks horrified "oh, my God".

There are claw marks all over his body and you can see his heart was ripped out of his chest. Jackson and the other werewolf place Aiden's body on a table in the next room, and we all walk in to investigate. "What happened" Star asked confused "Klaus made Aiden spy on us. Instead, he told me everything" Jackson says and looks at me "so you killed him"! I look at Aiden's body with a blank face, and Star looks at me in disbelief.

"You killed one of the wolves sworn to protect our daughter" Star asked and everyone stairs at me. I look at the body upset for a brief moment, but then push it down and lie "so what if I did? This is what happens to anyone who dares cross me" I said pointing to the body. "Just give us the word, Jackson" the wolf said "yes, come and have a go! But you'll be putting your life on the line for one who is all too willing to betray you. Perhaps this never would have happened if he'd had a real Alpha" I said.

Jackson lunges for me but Star steps in between us "no, enough, we are not doing this here" she says and it takes everything inside both Jackson and I not to charge for each other. Star stands in front of my, as does Elijah "if you come at him, you come at me" Star says and I smile. "You lot should make better use of your time, I suggest burying your dead" Klaus says. "Get out" Hayley yells "Niklaus, you mentioned a plan. I recommend you begin. Hope will be safe for the time being and not going anywhere.

I smirk at Hayley and walk out with Star chasing after me.

Star

"Tell me you didn't do it" I say and Klaus stops dead in his tracks and sighs deeply "tell me you didn't kill Aiden" I say, almost begging. "Star" "no, you admitted it" I tell him. "Then why even follow, to see for yourself, morbid curiosity? If I tell you who I am, and you refuse to believe me, then I can hardly be blamed for your disappointment" Klaus says, raising his voice a little before starting to walk away. "I wish I did believe you" I said and Klaus stops walking again.

"And, you know, maybe you were right. Maybe about everything, even Freya! Maybe she's not what she seems. Maybe she is out to get you and twisting everyone against you, and maybe she is this terrible person. But, you know what she didn't do, Klaus? She didn't just kill Aiden! She didn't just murder an innocent guy" I said as my eyes started to water. "And neither did I" Klaus yells and I look at him confused and overwhelmed that Klaus actually looks guilty for a moment.

"Then why did you tell them and me that you did" I asked "if I've spilled Crescent blood, then Hayley will be forced to question her pack's loyalty to Hope, and she will not run" Klaus says. "But if they don't protect her, then" I started "only I can save her, not you, no Elijah, me, and I need them to fear me" Klaus says upset. "Am I supposed to fear you, too" I asked sad. "It would be better for you if you did, to believe that I'm the monster they would paint me as. And then, when all this was past, I might find you and tell you that I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you" Klaus says

"And we go out for coffee and I would profess my innocence, and, because you're you, you'd believe me" Klaus says and gently caresses my cheek with his hand. "And I would wish for nothing more. A better man would protect you with that lie, but I am not that man" Klaus says. "But you are that man Klaus" "and what makes you so certain" Klaus asked? "Because I married you Klaus, because I love you, I know what I signed up for when I married you and you know that" I said placing my hand on his cheek.

"Anything you say to me won't make me stop loving you" I said with a small smile. "Then maybe we shouldn't have gotten married" Klaus said not looking at me in the eyes. I moved my hand away from his cheek as I looked at him in disbelief. "Maybe then you would see that I am a monster, and then you would have to feel like you are bound to stay with me" Klaus said and I couldn't believe what had just come out of his mouth.

Klaus starts to back away from me as I look at him hurt "and so I leave you burdened with the truth that no one will believe" Klaus says and rushes away from me, leaving me alone.
