The Dragon Guardian (Zuko x Reader)

First Day

(Y/N) POV

Here I stood. On the ship of the Fire Nation having my first mission as the best soldier. I still didn't know why but the lieutenant who's standing next to me told about finding the Avatar. I couldn't understand why because the Avatar had disappear for 100 years. No one had ever find him yet.

My thoughts were interrupt as I saw who I should accompany to this mission. It was Prince Zuko, the son of Firelord Ozai. But something was different this time, he came on the ship with his left eye bandaged.

Did I know what happend to his eye?
No.

Did I feel sorry for him?
Yes, absolutely.

As Prince Zuko saw me, we looked at each other, but I mostly looked at his bandage. He broke the eye contact by asking the lieutenant:
"Lieutenant, who's she?"
"Prince Zuko, this is (Y/N). She's our youngest and best soldier. She will accompany you on this mission.", the lieutenant introduced.
"Very well then, (Y/N), show me what you can!", Prince Zuko commanded
"Of course, your majesty.", I said bowing to him.

I showed him my firebending talents which I worked for two years. After I was done, I looked at Prince Zuko. He had a look of impression.

"Well done, lieutenant, you trained her really good.", Prince Zuko complimented the lieutenant.
"Thank you, sir, I'm really proud of her too.", the lieutenant said while putting a hand on my shoulder. I blushed because of it.
"We shouldn't wait any longer. We're leaving now.", Prince Zuko ordered the helmsman.

Before he went to his cabin I said:
"Prince Zuko", he turned around, "I usually don't get involved in private matters but whatever happend to your eye, I'm very sorry and you didn't deserve it. I want you to know." I bowed to him after that.

What happend next, was making me blush. Prince Zuko came to me so that we were close to each other, leaned in and whispered in my ear:
"Thank you for your pity, but I deserve it."

And went to his cabin. I looked sad as he left. Why did he say that he deserved it? I felt so sorry for him. I regained my senses, turned to the lieutenant and waited for his orders.

"Well, now that I see that you care for Prince Zuko, I'm giving you the order to stay by his side and protect him.", the lieutenant commanded.
"Thank you lieutenant.", I said and went to my post.

I was standing next to Prince Zuko's cabin door and thought with a determined look:
"It's going to be a long journey, but one thing I'm sure of is that I will always be there for Prince Zuko and support him anyway I can."
"I'm surprised that someone is worried about my nephew who is outside of his family.", someone said interrupting my thoughts.

I turned my head to the right and saw General Iroh.

Did I hear right? Nephew? Prince Zuko is General Iroh's nephew?

"General Iroh", I bowed to him, "I heard what happend in Ba Sing Se and from your son. I'm also very sorry about that.", I said.
"Thank you (Y/N), that's very sweet of you.", General Iroh responded smiling at me.
I smiled back but then it's falling with a look of uncertainty.
"What's wrong, my dear?", General Iroh asked.
I sighed and looked at him.
"Is it that obvious that I care about Prince Zuko?", I said unsure.
"I see that you have quite a liking in my nephew.", General Iroh responded.

I started blushing and it's getting brighter and brighter. He looked at me with a rised eyebrow waiting for my answer. I couldn't hold it any longer, so I confessed:
"All right, you got me. Even if I only know him for a few minutes, I know he needs someone who will be there for him"
"I know, (Y/N), and we two are going to be those who will support him. He needs us.", he said.

I looked at Prince Zuko's cabin door, put my hand and forehead on it and hoped he doesn't hear me:
"Don't worry, Prince Zuko, I won't let you down. I'll be here for you. I promise."

And I will keep my promise.

3rd POV

(Y/N) didn't know but Prince Zuko heard every word she said against his cabin door. He couldn't believe it.

Zuko's POV

I can't believe it. (Y/N) cares about me, but I can take care of myself. All I need is the Avatar to regain my honour. Nothing else.
