The Dragon Guardian (Zuko x Reader)

Mushi, Lee and Baojin

(Y/N) POV

We had been refugees for one week. To not get caught, we bought Earth Kingdom clothes with the money we still had. Zuko's hair had grown so that he wasn't bald anymore. He and I were looking for food but we didn't find anything.

"We didn't find anything to eat. I can't live like this. I wasn't meant to be a fugitive. This is impossible!", he complained.
"Zuko, if you don't want Azula to find us, you have to live like this. We have no other choice.", I said.
I saw Dad crouched in front of a red and white flower.

"Dad, what are you doing?", I crouched next to him.
"You're looking at the rare with dragon bush. It's leaves make a tea so delicious, it's heartbreaking. That, or it's the white jade bush, which is poisonous.", he told.
"We need food, not tea. I'm going fishing.", Zuko said.
"I'm coming with you!", I followed him but turned back to Dad,"Don't. Drink. That. Tea.", I ordered.

Zuko's POV

I was trying to fish with a stick but I just caught a fish that was so small like a little finger. I heard snickering behind me. I turned seeing that it was (Y/N).

"I hate fishing!", I declared.
"Let me do it. It's easier with my waterbending.", she assured me.
She waited for a fish to swim her way. I watched her from outside the water.
"So ... my uncle is your new father?", I started the conversation.
"Yes.", she confirmed.
"Does that make us family?"
"If you don't see me as your cousin, you can still see me as your best friend.", she waterbended a fish next to me.
I nodded.

(Y/N) had caught three fish for dinner. We went back to Uncle seeing him still in front of that flower.
"Zuko, (Y/N), remember that plant I thought might be tea?", he reminded us.
"You didn't.", (Y/N) sighed pinching the bridge of her nose.
"I did and it wasn't.", he declared showing us his red swelling face.
We startled.
"When the rash spreads to my throat, I will stop breathing. But look what I found!", he showed us a stick with red berries,"These are bacui berries, known to cure the poison of the white jabe plant. That, or maka'ole berries that cause blindness."

(Y/N) POV

"Ok, I've heard enough about plant berries doing this or that. We're not taking chances with them.", I declared taking the stick away from Dad,"We need to get help. Stop scratching yourself. You're making it worse.", I threw the stick away.
But he didn't stop scratching himself.
"But where are we going to go? We're enemies of the Earth Kingdom and fugitives from the Fire Nation.", he announced.
"If the Earth Kingdom discovers us, they'll have us killed.", Zuko said.
"But if the Fire Nation discovers us, we'll be turned over to Azula.", I said.
We all nodde in agreement.
"Earth Kingdom it is."

Time Skip

We arrived at a village and immediately found an infirmary. A young girl treated Dad rashes.
