Chapter Nineteen: Master of Illusions

Anna could barely make out Sam's fuzzy figure. Ever since she had fallen through the portal, everything had been blurry and pixelated. Even Renamon was an unrecognizable outline.

"What the heck is wrong with me?" she muttered, shaking her head. Her vision simply refused to clear up, and she just couldn't figure out why.

"What's wrong?" Renamon asked.

"My eyes...I can't see anything," Anna replied.

"That's odd," Dracomon said. He was nothing more than a blob of turquoise.

"I couldn't agree more," Anna muttered. She forced her eyes shut in an attempt to clear her sight, but to no avail.

A beeping noise made Anna's Digivice begin glowing. She pulled it from her belt from memory, not out of sight. This was new for her. Sam looked at it from beside her. "Something's nearby! Let's go find it!"

"Renamon, I'm going to need some help here. Everything is a blob of pixelation," Anna said.

Renamon took her shoulders gently. She pushed her partner forward carefully. Sam and Dracomon were just behind them.

Then, something flared out of the corner of Anna's eye. In that spot, her vision flared into focus. But as soon as the light was there, it was gone.

Anna began panting. For a second, she was overwhelmed with power and energy. 

Renamon noticed. "Are you alright?"

Anna nodded. "Yeah." She thought her mind was playing tricks on her. That light couldn't be really repairing her vision...could it?

"Something is wrong," Renamon said seriously. Anna then realized that she had gone silent in the way that meant she was hiding something. Renamon had picked up on it easily, being Anna's partner and all.

"That light...it's important. I'm not sure how I know or why...but it is. That light made my vision come back." Anna's braid began flapping gently in the breeze. She closed her eyes serenely, and when she opened her eyes, the irises were a golden yellow. 

Sam gasped. "Your eyes!" 

Anna looked at him. Sam thought her eyes had a creepy look to them, but breathtaking none the less. "I know. Something is making them do this, but what?"

Anna's head turned to see a small light of red. It pulsed gently, the steady beat like a drum. Anna noticed that it was her heart it was beating in sync with. Anna dashed for the light.

Sam sprinted after her with Dracomon close behind. Renamon lept from tree branch to tree branch in an attempt to catch up with her partner.

Anna slid to a stop in front of the light. She panted breathlessly. Anna crouched and reached for the center of the light. It shone brighter, like a crystal finally meeting sunshine. Anna stared into the light fearlessly. Her hand closed around the shimmer, making the glow cease.

The light returned when Anna slipped the object around her neck. It became smaller and more containable when it came into contact with Anna's chest. 

Anna looked around. Her vision had returned, but it was pulsing with cold colors. Anna shut her eyes before she could go completely crazy. 

But when she opened them, the Dark Ocean was gone. Instead, she saw a Digital World ocean.

Anna turned to see Sam, Dracomon, and Renamon with dark, empty eyes. She turned to yell at them, but Sam beat her to it.

"Anna! Anna, where are you?" Sam muttered in panic.

"I'm right here!" Anna exclaimed, running to his side.

"Anna! Where are you? I can't see you anymore!" Renamon said from nearby.

Anna removed the crest from her neck. Everything returned to the blurry Dark Ocean. Realizing the pattern, Anna grabbed Sam's shoulder with one hand and Renamon's with the other. "Sam, grab Dracomon's shoulder. Renamon, put the crest on my neck. We're about to get out of this nightmare!"

Both did as they were told. The world pulsed into blue, green, purple, and shades of gray. "Now, close your eyes and get ready to return to reality!"

When Anna opened her eyes, the Dark Ocean was gone, and a beach with telephones on it had replaced the nightmarish world.

"We did it!" she exclaimed.

"Did what, exactly?" Renamon asked. "How did we...?"

"It was my crest! The crest of Illusions saved us from that nightmare!" Anna explained happily.

"The crest of Illusions?" Dracomon repeated.

"That world...it's nothing more than the place of nightmares. It's where the darkness in people takes over. But the crest of Illusions lets me see through that. It saved us from definite darkness," Anna answered.

"But that's an issue," Sam told her, bottom lip trembling.

"What is it?" Renamon questioned.

"The others are still trapped in there," Dracomon said, gulping.

Anna sighed. She had gotten three out of a nightmare, but now twenty others needed her help. This seemed impossible, especially since she didn't know where they were.

"I see something!" Dracomon exclaimed suddenly. There was a rock further down the beach. He sprinted towards it.

Sam followed. Anna and Renamon looked at each other. They didn't see much choice in this situation.

When the quartet had reunited at the rock, Sam felt something warm in his pocket. Removing it from the pouch, the rock shrunk and flew into the glowing object.

"A crest!" Renamon realized, eyes wide.

Sam smiled and slipped it over his head. I hope mine has special powers like yours!" 

"Speaking of my crest, we should go and find the others. They probably need our help," Anna said.

"Are we all going back in there?" Renamon asked.

Anna shook her head. "No. You guys nearly fell under the Ocean's power. I'm going alone. If I'm not back in an hour with at least someone..."

Silence covered the area. "I'll be rootilng for you," Sam grinned encouragingly.

Anna nodded. She thought a tear would come to her eyes, which had finally returned to normal. "Thank you, Sam. That will be the most valuable thing I could ask for at a time like this."

And with that, Anna slipped the crest off her neck and vanished into the Dark Ocean.

And FYI I may skip ahead to after Anna has saved everyone. And also, I unfortunately do not know what will be in the next chapter.

But I have detemined the order that the group's partners will reach ultimate.

First, Kyle. Second, Fumiko. Followed by Tay, Jimmee, Maia, Raegan, Charlie, Anna, Kaez, Ayame, Ceya, and Sam.

I just drew their names out of a hat for that. XD

And also mega will be in part three of the trilogy (this is part two) and armor will be in part one. 

Will post the first and third parts of the story once this one is done.
