Charlie screamed as BlackRapidmon's bullets struck the mountain the cave was carved into. Having so many near encounters with destruction didn't make the fact that a shadow monster was trying to make the cave fall on them didn't help in any way.

"We have to fight back, at least until Fumi and Tay wake up," Jimmee exclaimed.

"I agree. Lucemon and I will go and keep him off until they can join the fight," Impmon said. He looked at Kyle.

Kyle nodded. His grip on his Digivice became tighter.

"IMPMON, DOUBLE DIGIVOLVE TO...ASTAMON!"

Astamon and Lucemon ran and flew out respectively. It was about to get ugly, but hopefully Fumiko would come in time...

-----

Fumiko saw shadows around her. It was kind of frightening.

Tay was next to her though, and that seemed to make Fumiko feel less lonely at that point in time. But she wished that Terriermon was there.

The dark soon faded, starting from the edges of Fumiko's vision. It closed in, and when the blackness had vanished, she saw rocks.

-----

Tay sat up before looking around. She could hear the ongoing battle outside, and Tay sort of wanted to jump out into it.

Fumiko helped Tay to her feet. Gatomon and Terriermon jumped for the now standing girls.

"You guys are okay!" Gatomon exclaimed.

Tay laughed as the cat scrambled onto her head. "We are indeed. Now, let's go take care of business!"

Terriermon's ears flapped over Fumiko's. "Are we going or not?"

Fumiko nodded, and Terriermon gripped her hair in an attempt to not fly off. "You could at the very least not send me flying, you know."

Fumiko laughed, but this only made Ceya frown. "This is no time for laughing! BlackRapidmon is out there probably pummeling Astamon and Lucemon and you four are just giggling over a happy reunion!"

"Ceya has a bit of a point," Gatomon agreed.

"Then let's go and take care of things!" Fumiko exclaimed. She ran out of the cave, Tay close beind. The Digimon went along for the ride happily.

Fumiko felt her hand close around her Digivice. It was go time.

"Terriermon, take him!"

Terriermon jumped from her head in reply. A glow enveloped the bunny as the digivolution began.

"TERRIERMON, DIGIVOLVE TO...GARGOMON!"

Gargomon prepared his gun as he closed the distance between himself and BlackRapidmon. Astamon was on the ground below the latter after being thrown sideways. Lucemon was having a little trouble with attacking, facing off against an ultimate and all. "Gargo Laser!"

BlackRapidmon shrugged it off, tossing Lucemon across the beach effortlessly. The angel slid through the sand, kicking up the grains in the process.

Gargomon jumped for a satisfied BlackRapidmon. "Gargo Laser!" he repeated.

BlackRapdimon prepared an attack. Fumiko was about to scream it to Gargomon, but everything turned dark around her instead, her crest keeping the shadows away. A voice reached her ears as Fumiko realized everything around her was frozen.

"Inheritior of Destiny and Keeper of Loyalty, fight with all that you have. Attack with the gift to see before it happens, and use it to resuce those you care for." The voice had an odd resemblence to Tay's, but Fumiko figured she was just imagining it. After all, her friend was standing, unmoving, on the ground.

Tay and Fumiko's crests both glowed, and the light spiraled together before hitting Gargomon. With a large amount of light, the dark was chased away, leaving a Gargomon that was changing shape in the center of it all.

"GARGOMON, DIGIVOLVE TO...RAPIDMON!"

The two Rapidmons now faced each other, their dark and light variations clear. Both seemed to be somewhat identical, but one stood for justice and the other for domination.

"I do believe we are now evenly matched," Rapidmon said simply.

"Matched or not, I shall defeat you," BlackRapidmon replied coldly. "Rapid Fire!"

"Rapid Fire!"

As the attacks collided, it was next to impossible to tell the missiles apart. They mingled, but none hit the intended target. A large bang echoed through the area when two targets struck one another, and the rivals were blasted to opposite sides of the beach by the time the missiles had all been destroyed.

"I see that this will not be as easy as hoped," BlackRapidmon growled.

"This will not be easy for you as long as I am standing in between you and my partner," Rapidmon responded.

Fumiko smiled from nearby. It sure did feel wonderful to have such a loyal partner as Rapidmon.

Emphasis on loyal.

Fumiko saw a blurry outline of BlackRapidmon attacking for a brief moment. "Get ready, Rapidmon!" she yelled.

Rapidmon took this one jump ahead advice and used it well. The second that BlackRapidmon was going, the original Rapidmon was too.

"Rapid Fire!" BlackRapidmon exclaimed.

"Tri-Beam!" Rapidmon countered. He created a large beam from his body, and it flung towards BlackRapidmon at light speed.

The attack struck true, and BlackRapidmon's data began to scatter. "I shouldn't have underestimated you."

The data was gone within seconds, and Fumiko felt a pang of guilt in her chest. She hadn't meant for that to happen, but at least he'd be reborn. If BlackRapidmon had succeeded, there wouldn't be such luck.

Fumiko was torn from her thoughts as Tay's arms surrounded her. "You go, girl!"

"It was Rapidmon, not me," Fumiko told her with a smile.

Rapidmon glowed and turned into Gummymon. "Aww, shucks, Fumi. But it was you who made me digivolve," Gummymon told her with a blush.

Fumiko shook her head as Tay released her. "I'm not going ot argue since you aren't going to back down any time soon."

Gummymon smirked. "I win!"

Fumiko became serious as their companions joined them. "But seriously, thank you for your help."

"You're welcome," Gummymon replied.

"You did it!" Charlie exclaimed, hugging Fumiko. "Great job, you two!"

Fumiko looked around with a slight blush, happy to see her friends' smiling faces. Everyone seemed happy but Kyle, who was lost in thought. "What's wrong, Ky?"

"I'm just thinking: we've been attacked by the Shadow Reigners three times in one day. When will they strike next, and who will they be after?" Kyle paused, closing his eyes seriously. "And most of all, will we be able to face them?"

No one answered. as desperately as they wanted to, they simply didn't know what would be the correct answer in this crazy world of mystery.
