Chanize POV

"Me tell you already Mama..." I sighed folding the clothes neatly into a medium size bag... outfits he bought me,

"...he was just offering me a drive."

"So u no always a walk go bou you business? Look how near Spanish Town deh?"

A true you no know

"As me seh..." I pulled on the zipper, feeling a bit irritated,

"He gave me lift, how was I suppose to know that he was going to stop and confront him gal?"

"Exactly Chanize... him gal... Keisha. Weh me sure seh ago buss you ass anytime she corner you again. Cause every body have it seh you and that boy a grind,"

And them no wrong... them should a see how the car shake two side lastnight.

"Me and Dwayne no in a nothing Mama... you no trust me?" I smiled, in search for a simple outfit to wear,

"Yes, ofcourse... you a me granddaughter, a me grow you... is that no good bwoy me no trust. Him is up to no good like him dutty, careless puppa,"

She knew his dad...

But how?

It has always been Dwayne and his mom.

"Nuh bwoy can't mek me do wei me no wah do," I forced a smile, lying to my grandmother's face,

I am already doing everything he says, but that's the thing.... I don't feel forced.

"Mhm..." my grand mother sat on the bed, "ya big girl now Chanize, me can't tell you who fi talk to and wah fi do... but that bwoy... stay far from him, a don't want when them boy a shoot after him you get caught in a the midst of it.

Apart from the sagging skin and detailed wrinkles, I saw something else. I could see the genuine concern and fear of losing me on her face. She already lost a son... my dad and I grew to understand what that kind of pain can do to some one, it makes them paranoid. But here I am risking it all... for him,

"I will be fine," I sat next to her, "I promise... you won't lose me too ."

She smiled, looking over her shoulder at the bag,

"Wei you a run wei go?"

"Uhmm..." I swallowed hard, realizing the lies I told, requires a few more to cover my tracks,
"It's just thing... for work," I chuckled nervously,

"Work in a hotel? Pan today sunday," She stood from the edge of my bed,

Yes, Mama... I thought

Today Sunday... no church she fi deh.

"Things and time really change... back in a my days we afi mix concrete and swing bucket. Now uno young people just spend whole day round computer,"

"It's not as easy as you make it sound... trust me," I scurred through my drawer,

"Working at a call center is not for the weak,"

"Alright miss, mi ago share out some food fi you carry on the road," she walked towards the door,

"Mama... hotels have all you can eat buffets,"

"Yes, but you want some real food ina you system... pure fry fry deh a hotel fi bun you chest,"
