Locked Away

Chapter 2

Amelia is sitting with Addison, Mark, and Derek. She keeps looking at her watch. "Where is Meredith? She was supposed to be here over an hour ago?"

"Maybe she got called back to the hospital? Is she on call tonight?" Derek asked his sister.

"No, she's not. Not till tomorrow night. Something isn't right." She responded.

"Why don't you try calling her?" Addison asked her. "Maybe she'll answer."

"I'll try. I've sent her like 5 texts already and she still hasn't responded to any of them." Amelia said worriedly.

"Maybe she got drunk and forgot about us. I bet she's still at Joe's with Cristina." Mark said.

Amelia ignored Mark or at least tried to and tried to call Meredith.

"Ugh. Still no response." Amelia set her phone down after getting Meredith's voicemail again. "Mark, she wouldn't get drunk and forget about us. That's not Meredith!"

"Amy, why don't you try calling Cristina?" Addison suggested.

"Good idea." Amelia picks up her phone and calls Cristina who picks up on the third ring.

"'Amyyyyyy how are you? Are you and Meredith having so much fun without me?" Cristina said drunkily. "Tell Meredith I miss my person!"

"Me and Meredith? No, she's not here yet.  I can't tell her! That's why I'm calling you. Is she not with you?" Amelia said, starting to panic.

"She left an hour and a half ago to go have dinner with you guys. What do you mean she's not there yet? That's not possible." Cristina said sobering up fast when she realized Meredith seemed to be missing.

"I don't know. She never showed up and I'm starting to panic. What if something happened to her? It only takes ten minutes to get here from the hospital." Amelia said worriedly.

Mark, Derek, and Addie were listening carefully to Amelia's conversation with Cristina and we're starting to get the feeling something wasn't right.

"Cristina, I'm going to call Dr Bailey and see if she got paged in all of a sudden. Maybe she saw a trauma when she went to get her cab at the hospital and never texted to say she was working."

"Okay. Call me back and let me know." Cristina said.

Amelia said she would and hung up the phone and immediately called Dr Bailey.

"What do you want, Shepherd! People are dying, I don't have time to talk to you!" Dr Bailey snapped.

"Bailey, is Meredith there? Did she get paged?" Amelia asked quickly.

"No, she's not here! I'm not her babysitter! I don't keep track of that girl 24/7!" Bailey said, annoyed.

Amelia's heart sank when she heard that Meredith was not at the hospital. "That's not good." To her friends and brother she said "she's not there either. Something isn't right."

Dr Bailey heard her say that and softened her tone. "Is everything alright? Is something going on with Grey?"

"I don't know. She was supposed to come over an hour and a half ago - no, two hours ago now. And she still hasn't shown up. I've texted her a million times and called her but she's not responding to anything. I called Cristina and she said she left Joe's and was supposedly on her way here but she never showed up. I'm really worried that something happened to her. This isn't like Meredith." Amelia explained to Bailey.

Bailey frowns. "I agree. That's not like Meredith at all. And Cristina said she left Joe's and was heading to you?"

"Yeah, Cristina said Meredith told her goodbye and was heading over here for dinner but she never showed up. I'm starting to panic Bailey. What if something happened to her? What if she's hurt?" Amelia said tearfully.

"Don't panic yet Amelia. There's a chance she's just fine and an emergency came up and she can't answer her phone at the moment."

"I don't know. I need to call Cristina back." Amelia hangs up the phone and puts her head in her hands. "She's not there guys! Where could she be! Something is wrong!"

"I agree. I think something is wrong. Why don't you try her again, Amy?" Addie says.

Amelia nods and picks up her phone. She calls Meredith and her phone just rings and rings. Amelia eventually gets Meredith's voicemail again.

"Hi, this is Meredith Grey. I can't take your call right now but if you leave your name and number I'll call you back! Bye!"

"Meredith! Pick up your damn phone! Where are you? Call me back as soon as you get this!" Amelia puts her head back in her hands.

All of a sudden Amelia's phone dings notifying her she has a text message.

"Meredith!" Amelia shouts, picking up her phone to see if it's Meredith that just texted her.

"Is it Meredith???" Addie asks frantically.

Amelia looks confused. "It's a blocked number."

She opens up the text and gasps and pushes the phone away from her.

"What is it?" Addie says loudly and grabs Amelia's phone. She also gasps and places her hand over her mouth. "Oh my God."

Mark picks up the phone then and looks at it. He gets teary eyed. "We need to call the police."

"Why? What is it?" Derek asks.

"See for yourself." Mark gives him the phone.

Derek gasps.

It's a picture of Meredith all beaten up and bloody lying unconscious on the ground. Her clothes are all ripped up, barely covering her body and she has tons of blood all over her body.

"Call 911." Derek says.
