An inconvenient attachment

Part 2: Chapter 2

I pay the taxi driver, grab my bags and step out of the car. I look around. Monaco is beautiful, but so fucking hot. And I even wore shorts. Max already sent me the code to get into his apartment complex. I don't know how many times I knock on his door, but no answer. I lay my ear against the door, but I don't hear anything. I grab my phone and call him. To no surprise, no answer. I call Kelly, who immediately answers.

"Ugh, yeah, he's probably gaming with his friends with his headset on" she says after I explain Max doesn't open the door. I sigh, I'm too hot and need a fricking shower. I'm so not in the mood for this. "I won't be home until tonight, maybe bang louder?" Kelly says. "I already tried. I'm this close to kicking the door in" I say jokingly, but not really joking though. "No, maybe don't do that. His friend does stream on twitch, maybe you can message him in his chat and maybe he'll read it out loud?" she says, knowing I won't feel like going to that much trouble. But I don't think I have any other option, besides going down stairs and going to a bar or something. "Ok, thanks Kelly. I'll update you" I say. "Yes, but please don't kick my door in" she begs before she hangs up.

I open twitch and type in 'Max Verstappen', I find the stream of his friend pretty quick. I type 'Hey, tell Max to open his front door. Ass doesn't answer the door' and hit send. To my surprise not that many people are watching so he reads my message pretty quickly. Only he doesn't read it out loud. He actually blocks my message. What the fuck?

'I'm serious. Tell Max Mia is at his door and to open it' I sent, I don't know how many messages I have to sent before this guy finally reads one out loud. When I sent a couple more a lot of people comment on mine. This takes his attention. "Max, some girl keeps saying she's at your door" he finally says out loud. "Oh fuck!" Max says. I don't see Max on screen, but I do hear footsteps running towards the door. "Sorry, I was gaming and I had my head set on" Max says when he opens the door. I put my bag down in the hallway and fall down on the couch. Finally, air conditioning. "That took you a while" I say. "I hope you weren't standing there too long" Max says as he walks back to his gaming chair. "No, just about half an hour or something" I say sarcastically. "Great" Max says, already back in his game. When I cool down a bit I stand up and walk over to Max his gaming set up. "Next time please tell him when I'm at the door. It was bloody hot out there" I say, close to Max his microphone. I don't hear what the guy says, but I'm sure next time he will tell Max. "I'll finish this game and then we'll eat something" Max says. "Don't worry. I'll entertain myself, you game" I say, waving to his whole setup. I put my bags in the same room I stayed in the previous time, I hope that's ok because this one had a really nice shower. I grab some clean clothes and head into the shower. When I'm finished Max is still gaming. I take something to drink, grab my cigarettes and head out on the balcony. God, the door still jammed from the last time I was here. Lando slammed the door so hard he almost broke it.

I lay my head back and enjoy the sun, a Pepsi in one hand and a cigarette in my other, this is life. "I'm worried if this is your way to entertain yourself" Max laughs when he sits down. "Man, I'm just enjoying life" I say. And it's true. For the first time in I don't know how long, I'm enjoying myself. No anxiety, no headaches, no worrying. "Are you high?" Max says as he grabs my chin firmly, making me look at him. I slap away his hand. "Oh fuck off, is it that weird that I'm enjoying myself?"

"Yes" Max says, quickly nodding his head. "Come on" he says, "I'll make you something to eat."

After we eat and watch a series it's finally time to go out. Kelly will join us later. To my surprise Charlotte, Charles, Carlos and Daniel are also there. "He guys! I didn't know you were also going to be here" I say, giving them all a hug, I missed them. When I get to Daniel it's a bit awkward, because I don't really know him. He gives me a fist bump. "Look what the cat dragged in" Charles says. "Where have you been? We haven't seen you in what feels like ages" Carlos says. I feel a bit awkward. I thought they might not want to see me after me and Lando broke up. But I guess they have become my friends as well. I look around, this is not the normal club we normally go to. It's a bit more low key, less people. It's very cool though. "So, are you coming to my party tomorrow? You never responded to my text" Carlos asks. I look confused. "My birthday" he says, raising his eyebrows. Oh my god. I completely forgot. He literally told me like four times. I have been so busy with myself these days, that I totally forgot his birthday. Fuck, I'm shit.

"Of course! I'm ready" I say, trying to look convincing. "Keep practicing on that, you almost look convincing" Carlos says, winking at me.

"You guys started partying without me?" I turn around and see Pierre walking towards us. Great, just what I need.
