An inconvenient attachment

Chapter 54

Lando danced with me. He actually made me feel a bit better. This whole situation is still shit. Now I have to figure something else out. And I still have to tell Lando.

Lando has his arm wrapped around me. Max, Kelly, Lando and me have been sitting outside on the balcony for a while now. Kelly offered me wine, but when I saw the look on Lando's face I decided I'd better not. "I have a surprise for you" Max says. I didn't even notice the small box beside him. "For me?" I say surprised. Max nods. I look at Lando, who looks at me with a grin on his face. "Did you know about this?" I ask when I take the box from Max. Lando nods. I open the box and inside is the watch. My watch. My brothers watch. But now it's not broken. Tears stream down my face. "Did you have it fixed?"

"Yes. Do you like it?" Max looks at me, like he's not sure if I'm going to hug him or punch him in his face. I nod slowly. I take it out of the box. It looks exactly like before. Before Noah destroyed it. With shaky hands I put it on. "Thank you" I stammer. I lean forward and give Max a hug. "Well, you left it here. So I took my shot" Max jokes. He pats me on my back awkwardly. "Max, she's not a dog" Kelly says. "I don't see the difference" Max says. I roll my eyes. I'm shocked. I didn't expect him to do something so nice for me. "I could use that glass of wine now" I say to Kelly jokingly. "I'm kidding" I say when I see Lando's face, bumping my shoulder against his.

"No alcohol for you for the next year" Lando jokes. "Yes daddy" I say. As soon as I say it I realize what I've done. Max and Kelly burst out laughing. Lando looks, kinda amused. "You like that huh" Max laughs even harder. "Shut up" I say, my cheeks burn up out of embarrassment. We sit there for another hour.

"You guys enjoy yourself, I'm going to bed" Kelly says. "We can go if you want" Lando offers. "No, don't be silly. I have to get up early, you guys have fun" she says as she kisses Max goodnight. "I have to go to the bathroom. Anyone want another drink?" Max asks when Kelly leaves. "Yes please" I hold my glass in front of me.

"Why were you so upset earlier?" Lando asks. I sigh and shake my head. "It was stupid" I say. "No it's not, you were upset. Tell me."

I rub my temples. "I just, it didn't go to plan."

"What?" Lando looks confused. "I don't want to get into it."

"Talk to me, Mia."

"I don't really want to talk about it right now" I say. "Why is it so hard for you to talk to me?" I hear frustration in his voice. "What are you talking about? It's not."

"You seem to talk to Max pretty easily" Lando says. Oh no, I see where this is going.

"Really? Is this what this is about?"

"Yes, well I guess it is. It's about how you find it so difficult to talk to me, while you tell everything to Max. Why? Am I not good enough?"

"Lando, I never said that." I roll my eyes. I feel myself getting annoyed. Dick. I realize I have no other option than to tell him. Good god, I hope this goes allright.

"I was upset because I had a fucking plan. And that plan failed."

"You keep talking about that fucking plan of yours, while I have no idea what you're even talking about." Lando says as he stands up. He goes with his hand through his hair.

"Is this about Noah?" Lando asks when I don't answer. I hate fighting. "Is that guy still bothering you?" Now he sounds really fucking pissed.

"Talk to me damn it!" he almost screams. I hate it when he talks like this, it fucking pisses me off. I don't want this.

"Yeah well, I had a plan Lando. Noah said if I didn't fucking break up with you, well I don't know what the fuck he was going to do! So I made a plan. Our relationship was going to be a secret. Noah would think we would have broken up. It's a plus for everybody! But then that fucking paparazzi showed up and ruined the whole thing! That's why I was fucking upset" I yell at him.

"It's a plus for everybody?" Lando looks at me surprised, like he can't believe what I just said.

"You know what I mean" I sigh.

"No, I don't think I do actually. Explain."

"Lando, I don't want to go into this right now" I say while rubbing my temples, I feel a migraine coming. "Oh what, it's not convenient for you now? It's never convenient, Mia!" Lando sounds really angry right now. I don't think I ever saw him this angry. He's pacing back and forth. His jaw tense.

"Plus for everybody" Lando scoffs. My hands start to shake. "It shouldn't even be a fucking option for you" he screams. I shake my head, not knowing what I should say, what I can say. This is why I didn't want to tell him now, because I was scared this would happen. That he would be angry. He doesn't get it. I can't run away from that guy.

"You don't get it" I say. "That's because you never talk to me" Lando yells.

"You really think it would be a plus for everybody?"

"I can't fucking believe you" Lando says when I don't answer. "It would, Lando" I try.

"You know what, fuck this." Lando turns around and slams the door behind him. I see him walking towards the front door, almost knocking the drinks out of Max his hands. Tears stream down my face. Fuck fuck. This is so not how I wanted this to go. How I expected this to go.

"What happened?" Max looks confused. I shake my head and bury my face in my hands. I'm so fucking tired of crying all the time.

"He'll come around" Max says, sitting down beside me. "I don't think so" I say softly.

"Can I stay here tonight? I guess my ride just left" I ask when I calm down a bit. "Yes of course, I'll grab you something to sleep in" Max says as he stands up. He has trouble opening the balcony door. "Dickhead almost demolished my door" Max says while shaking his head. I pull my knees up to my chest and rest my head on my knees. What a fucking shit-show.
