"How was your day?" I ask when Lando answers the phone. I've had a couple of hours to calm myself down, and maybe a few drinks too many. I decided to call Lando when I thought he would be done with work. He looks tired. "Yeah, fine. And yours?"
"Fine."
"Did you and Addison have fun?" Lando asks. Now that I think about it, this does explain why he said I needed better friends and why he wasn't excited that she was coming here. He should have told me though.
"Yes loads" I try to hide my sarcasm. "Is everything allright?" he asks. It's fucking annoying how he knows me so well. "Yes, fine. We had a great day. I didn't get to watch the quali, how was it?"
"Shit, starting from eight, loads of possibilities or something" he says while rolling his eyes, clearly disappointed with his starting place. "It's true. The points are tomorrow" I say, trying to cheer him up. "Ugh, you spend too much time with Max, you're starting to sound like him."
"Oh stop it" I say, giggling. "Mia, have you been drinking?" Lando sits up in what looks like his bed. I roll my eyes. "Only a few."
"Did you just roll your eyes at me?" Lando acts like he's hurt. "Watcha going to do bout it?" I try to sound tough, but it comes out ridiculous. "Maybe I will.." he gets interrupted by a knock on his door. "Hold on" Lando says while walking over to his door. "You ready?" a woman's voice asks. "I'll be down in a few minutes. You guys go ahead and order." I want to ask who that woman was, but I don't want to sound jealous or something.
"That was someone from my team, we're having dinner together with a few other people" he explains. I nod. "Good luck tomorrow," I say, "I'll be watching."
"You better be, I'll call you tonight if it's not too late and otherwise I'll call tomorrow when I'm on the plane."
"Ok, sounds good."
"Ok, lovvvv, uh, see yah" Lando says before he hangs up. Oh my god. Did he almost say love you? I think he did.
Fuck, I realize I didn't ask him about Addison. I wanted him to tell me. Not me having to ask for an explanation. Well, maybe I'll ask him next time. I lay down on my bed and quickly feel my eyes getting heavy. Probably because of those shots I took.
The next few days I spend going to school, studying and taking tests. I don't really see Kate that much. She had a boyfriend who has a nicer place, so she sleeps there most of the nights. Which I completely understand, but it does get a little bit lonely.
I lay in bed and decide to facetime Max. He answers pretty quickly.
"What did you do today?" Max asks after he told me about his day. "Nothing much, my day was a bit boring to be honest."
"Hmm."
"I finished all my tests so that's good" I sigh. "How did it go?" Max asks.
"Ok, I hope. I don't like saying if it went good or bad, because then it's always the opposite with me" I laugh. It's true. Every time I thought a test went well, I didn't pass.
"And I don't have school next week so that's going to be fun" I say sarcastically. I like being free from school, just not when I have nothing else to do.
"Why don't you come here?" Max asks.
"To Austria?"
"Yeah. You can stay with me if you want and I'm sure Lando would like to see you" Max says. "I don't know."
"Come on, it would be fun. We have some free time after Sunday since we are racing here next week also" Max tries to persuade me. "Ok, sure. Why not. Sounds fun" I realize how little time it took to convince me. "Great, I'll book you a ticket" he says. I see Max scrolling on his phone. "No need, I can book my own ticket" I fall back on my bed. "No problem, I still have your info in my phone so it's easy for me to book one. How does Saturday 11 in the morning sound? Then you can watch the race on Sunday."
"Yes, that's fine but I'll look at it later."
"Already booked" Max says. I roll my eyes at him. "What's wrong with your ears?" I ask. "A thank you would be enough" he says jokingly. "Thanks Max. It's really kind, but I can book my own ticket the next time."
"Of course" he says like he wouldn't do the exact same thing the next time.
"Lets do something fun when you arrive, lets surprise Lando. Don't tell him you're coming" Max suggests.
"What's your plan?" I ask. "I'll think about a way to surprise him and let you know."
"What if he doesn't really want me to come?" I ask, afraid I will look like an idiot. "Oh he wants you to come. He doesn't shut up about it."
"Really?"
"Yes. Oh and try to be discrete when you walk into the paddock, try not to get noticed too much" Max says. "Ok, sure."
A little bit shorter chapter, but I wanted to upload for you guys. I have a bit of a problem finding my motivation, but i'm getting there. Already working on the next chapter. Hope you enjoyed🧡
