Lando moves towards me. His face is now only inches away from mine. I feel his breath on my lips. His hand wraps around the back of my neck, pulling me in even closer. His other hand moves over my spine. Fuckk. "Give me one good reason not to kiss you right now" he says, his voice low. I focus on my breath. Keep breathing Mia. Speak. Use words. But I don't, because the truth is that I want him to kiss me. Suddenly the elevator door opens and another man steps in. Lando has his back turned towards him. Lando sighs. "I think that reason just walked in" I giggle. Lando looks at me while biting his lip. It takes a moment before he moves and stands beside me. Not even giving the man that just walked in a look.
"I feel like people are staring at us" I say. "It's Monaco, people don't really care here" Lando says. I look at him confused. "It's a rich people's town, here they are used to seeing famous people. They see them everyday" Lando explains. I nod, not really believing him. When we finally arrive at the restaurant, Lando asks the waiter for a table for two. It's near the water and beautiful. It took us a while to get here. I had the great idea to walk up the hill. Lando was stopped for pictures only twice. Which is way less than normal. I sigh when I sit down in the chair, finally. I look over the railing, the view definetly was worth the long and hard walk. We order something to drink and a bite to eat.
"So, how are you?" I ask, not really knowing what else to say. Lando looks at me with a smile on his face. "What?" I ask. "Is this what we're going to do? Ask each other how we are?" he laughs. I shrug my shoulders. "I don't know what else to say" I say, feeling slightly awkward. "How about you tell me about your plans for the next school year?" he asks while taking a sip of his drink. So I do. I tell him about the classes I want to take. About the internship in Monaco, about everything. And he genuinely listens. He's really interested. Or he's a damn good actor, but I don't think so.
"I wish I could come with you looking at apartments, I love that stuff" I say. As soon as I said it I wish I could have taken it back. I don't have anything off value to add. My opinion doesn't matter anymore. Like he would want me to come. Idiot.
"Yeah, me too. Maybe you can change your flight?"
I try to hide my smile. "Why are you smiling?" Lando asks. Well, guess i'm not good at acting either. "Nothing. I'm just glad you would want me there."
"Don't be silly, you muppet. Why wouldn't I want you there?" he asks. "We did break up" I remind him. He sighs. "Yeah, thanks for reminding me" he rolls his eyes. "Did you just roll your eyes at me?" I ask, trying to cheer the mood up a bit. He smirks. "Yes. What are you going to do about it?" Just when i'm about to say something I shouldn't have, the waiter comes back to grab our plates. Saved by the bell. "Can I get the check please?" Lando asks while already putting his card on the table. He doesn't even look at the bill when it arrives.
I almost grab his hand when we walk along side of the beach, back to Max his place. "Do you want to sit down for a moment? Admire the view?" I ask when we reach a silent place on the beach. He nods and sits down. I sit down next to him, just a little bit too close.
"Is this really what you want? Because you know it's ok to change your mind right?" Lando asks after a moment of silence, looking at me, our knees touching. I shake my head. "What I want to say now is that it was all a mistake. That we should forget about everything and just start over" I sigh. "Why do I feel like there's a 'but' coming?" Lando asks. "But," I continue, "I made you miserable the last few weeks. How can I expect to make you happy when I can't even make myself happy?"
"First of all, you didn't make me miserable. Second, it's not your job to make other people happy" Lando says. "A lot had happened over the last few months. It's ok to need a bit more time. We have time" Lando says as he wraps his arm around me. A tear rolls over my cheek. "You don't have to wait for me" I say as I shake my head.
"I know" he says. We sit there in silence for a while before we walk back to the apartment. The rest of the day and evening we spent watching movies with Max and Kelly. It's really nice just to chill with them. Well, Lando and Max watched one movie and then went gaming. It was a pretty great night though. That night I fell asleep with Lando's arms wrapped around me. I know I shouldn't, but fuck it.
The next day we arrive at the airport. Lando drove me here. I already said goodbye to Max and Kelly at the apartment. Max wanted to drive me, but Lando insisted. He drove really slow this time, the previous time still burned in our heads.
"Where is the race next weekend?"
"France" Lando says. "Then two in Austria, you should come. It's Max his home race. Well that guy has multiple home races, but Austria is pretty cool. After Austria my home race, you should definitely come to that one."
I laugh. "I also have school you know" I say, hiding my excitement that he wants me there. He sighs. "Yes, and I suppose coming to all the races isn't really giving you time is it?" Lando laughs. I smile. Lando parks his car and grabs my bag out of the backseat. I feel people staring at us. Lando doesn't seem to notice. He pulls me in for a hug. God, i've missed this. "I should go, before I miss my flight" I say, still hugging him. "Relax, you're two hours early" Lando says as he lets me go. "Always be on time for your flight" I say.
"Now is probably not a good time to kiss you, is it?" Lando jokes. I mess up his hair and grab my bag. "Thanks for the ride" I say. "Always."
