My alarm woke me up the following morning. I'm definitely not a morning person. I rarely wake up with any energy and today was no exception. Rolling out of bed, I walked into the kitchen and turned on the kettle to make my morning coffee.
After drinking my coffee and getting ready for the day, I turned on my laptop and started my work for the day. A few hours passed and I was staring to get hungry. Making my way to the fridge I realised I had forgot to pick up some groceries. So without much choice I grabbed my coat and bag and walked to the shop.
The shop was pretty quiet, too quiet, but then again it was sort of hidden away. I scanned the shelves picking up only what I needed. Having got everything I needed I payed and left the shop. I didn't realise how much stuff I got but my arms were being weighed down by three heavy bags. I figured if I walked quickly it would only take seven minutes to get back to my apartment. Four minutes in and I had to stop on the sidewalk. I put down the bags and rested my arms for a couple of seconds.
"Need a hand?" Someone called behind me.
"Oh no it's fine" I replied then looked behind.
"You sure?"
There's no way. There's no way. What are the chances.
"Are you stalking me?" I asked the curly haired boy.
He looked into my eyes and a smile drew across his face. "Hey it's you".
"So you just happened to be walking down the same street as me at the same time?"
"Maybe I am stalking you"
I looked at him not being able to hide the smile forming I looked away quickly and grabbed my bags.
"So you aren't going to let me help you" he questioned.
"I can manage" but I could feel my arms already starting to ache.
He continued walking alongside me and I eventually gave in.
"Fine" As I handed him a bag his hand touched mine and I felt my heart beat what felt like a thousand times faster. I shook the feeling off and ignored whatever that was.
"So how are you liking New York?" He asked inquisitively.
"Honestly I haven't really seen that much yet" I trailed off. "Oh this is me" I looked up towards my apartment block.
"You live here?" He sounded kind of shocked.
"Yeah. Why is that bad?"
"No no. It's just...my apartments only 10 minutes from here"
"Oh so you weren't stalking me then" I laughed.
"Do you want me to bring this up?" he lifted the bag.
"Um. Yeah sure. Please. If you don't mind"
"Of course not" he smiled.
We walked up three flights of stairs. Three long flights of stairs and I could tell by his face what his next question would be.
"You know we could've take the elevator" he chuckled.
I gave him a look and he somehow read my mind.
"Ohhhh. You're scared of elevators" he smirked.
"Maybe I like the excise"
"I saw the look of terror in your eyes when I mentioned the word elevator" he laughed.
I frowned at him and he failed at trying to hide a smirk.
We finally got to my apartment door. Fishing my keys out my jean pocket, I opened the door and let timothee in. I looked around not remembering what state I'd left it in. Lucky enough I was a pretty tidy person. I got that from my mum.
Timothee put that bag on the kitchen counter and instantly went over to look at the view out my window. He looked over at my desk which was consumed with books and notes. He then studied the rest of my apartment probably noticing it's bare and empty feel.
"It's not finished yet. It's pretty empty at the moment"
"No I like it. I mean this view is amazing"
I gazed at him. Only now that we were silent and I had time to process, I really saw how perfect he was. Green eyes, the type of green that belonged in a forest with a stream and trees blowing in a warm breeze. The curliest mass of chocolate brown hair always seemed to fall in the perfect way. And a smile that could make your heart simply melt. I hadn't realised just how intensely I'd been staring at him.
A smile was hiding behind his eyes as he caught me staring at him. I instantly looked away but I could feel his eyes on me.
"Sorry. I better go and leave you to put your stuff away" he looked over at the bags of shopping.
I didn't want him to leave but I also didn't want to say that to him. "Thank you for helping me with the bags" disappointment strung through my voice.
"Yeah sure don't worry about it" he ran his hands through his hair. "Maybe I'll see you around then"
"Yeah I'll see you around" I smiled.
He left and I was alone. I put the kettle on and sat by my window. Looking down I saw Timothee step out of my apartment building. He walked along the sidewalk and soon was out of site. The whistle of the kettle made me jump and brought me back to reality. A reality I needed to remember.
