The sound of my phone buzzing woke me. I grabbed it off my bedside table and couldn't believe when it read 12:22pm. Realising it was Sunday and I had plans with Maddy, I made a coffee, got dressed and through on some makeup. I heard a knock at the door and knew it was Maddy.
"Hey" I smiled.
"I forgot to get your phone number otherwise I would've asked if you were ready"
"I'm ready just let me grab my bag"
"Ok let's go" locking the door behind me.
"So we're we going" I asked intrigued.
"It's a surprise. I promise you'll love it. I mean hopefully" she laughed.
We walked down a few busy main streets, passing cafes and shops. After walking for ten minutes we stopped outside a small building. It was like I entered a dream. Shelves stacked with books but in the most beautiful setting possible. A spiral staircase lead to the second floor that wrapped around in a circle around the building. I looked over to the left and noticed a small cafe with only three tables.
"So do you like it" Maddy asked her face unsure if my answer.
"Are you kidding. This is so beautiful. I can't believe this has been here the whole time and I never knew"
"So do you wanna look around for a bit and then get a coffee"
"Yeah I'm dying to look at all these books"
I headed straight for the second floor climbing up the beautiful spiral staircase. Before going to look at the books, I looked down now that I was an almost balcony like structure. I could see Maddy picking out a book. Turning around and looking at the stacks of books I didn't know which section to choose. I ended up going down one that was almost like a maze. Studying all the books and reading a few that looked interesting, I was completely unaware that someone had come up behind me.
"Can't find a book?"
I jumped and dropped the book I was holding. Bending down to reach the book another hand beat me too it and I looked up. I was honestly to shocked to speak.
"Here" he passed me the book.
"You sure know how to sneak up on someone" I half laughed.
"So you found my secret place" he stared into my eyes.
"Um. What?" I couldn't pay attention when he was looking at me like that. I could tell he knew because of the smile forming on his face.
"I come here when I'm in New York. It's my secret place that so far no one has discovered"
"Except for me" I said in an almost proud way.
"Except for you" He bored into my eyes.
I looked away putting the book back I'd dropped and walked further down. Footsteps followed behind me and I couldn't help but smile.
"Have you ever watched the series YOU?" I asked.
He chuckled and I knew he figured out where I was going with this.
"So you think I'm a serial killer?"
"I mean you seem to show up everywhere I go. And you just happen to be in the same bookstore as me" I raise my eyebrows with a smile on my face.
"How do I know you're not stalking me. I mean you seem to show up at all my secret places" he said copying my facial expression and tone.
I laughed before taking a book out of its slot. I turned towards Timothee and handed him the book before walking past him and heading back to meet Maddy.
He didn't follow but I knew he was watching me. Maddy waved at me from the bottom of the staircase and I went down to meet her.
"Want to get a coffee?" She asked.
"Definitely"
Maddy ordered while I got us a seat. Looking up to the second floor, Timothee was looking at me. I smirked before holding up my middle finger. Seeing his shocked face turn into a laugh made me instantly smile.
"Who are you smiling at?" Maddy asked, a puzzled look on her face.
"Oh um no one just thinking about something" I stuttered.
She put down two coffees on the table and sat opposite me.
"So, found any good books?" I asked trying to get Timothee out my mind.
"Actually I was thinking of reading 'call me by your name' but I couldn't find it"
I almost chocked on my coffee.
"Is it not a good book?" She asked fully serious.
"No no it's good. It's great actually" I half smiled.
I glanced up but Timothee was gone. Staring off into space wondering if he'd left the shop or he was deep in a maze of books, I felt something pull the back of my hair. I turned to see Timothee sitting right behind me.
"You pulled my hair" I whispered frowning at him.
"That's what you get for giving me the middle finger" he chuckled under his breath.
He was wearing a dark green hoodie with the hood up and headphones around his neck. Some of his hair was creeping through and I couldn't help but stare.
"Who are you talking to?" Maddy looked up from her phone and eyed both me and Timothee.
"Oh um he just dropped his phone under my chair so was just giving it back" I tried to sound convincing.
She seemed to buy it because then she started asking me if I'd been to any clothes stores. We drank the rest of our coffee and decided to go shopping after. I actually needed some new clothes since I didn't bring that many with me. As we left the bookstore I peered back at Timothee. He looked deep in thought staring down at a book. I wonder what he was reading.
Hours later we came back to our apartments with arms full of bags. Honestly felt like a was in a movie. We tried hugging each other goodbye but it was a failed and funny attempt that had us crying with laughter. I was so happy I'd made a friend.
Dropping the bags onto my couch, I switched the tv on and put pretty little liars on. I quickly changed into sweatpants and an oversized tee because who can just sit in jeans. Sorting through the stuff I'd got, I heard a knock at the door. Thinking it was Maddy I instantly opened the door. Timothee was standing there right outside my door. My eyes moulded into a look of pure shock.
