Benicia stuffed her hands into the pockets of her black hoodie. She caught sight of Ben staring off into the port, "Hey."
"Hey."
Benicia winced a little bit, "I take it you're still mad."
Ben didn't even look at her, "What do you think?"
"I'm sorry, Ben, I should have been the one... I just need you-"
"You know who needs me, Benicia? My wife-" Ben turned to look at her, "-she needs me."
"It was important."
"You could've just told me but no, you let Karen sprint some story about this great place upstate that could be good for Doris. Like you give a damn."
Benicia furrowed her brows, "Hey, that is not fair."
"Welcome to my life."
"I-" Benicia stared back at the water before following after Ben, "You're right. I should've told you."
"Then why didn't you?" Ben turned around and leaned against the front of his car.
"I was afraid you'd say no."
Ben pursed his lips, "Probably would've."
"This isn't just a story anymore." Benicia told him, raising her hand to block out the sun, "This is people's lives. And what Fisk has been doing, the person that he really is... We finally have the smoking gun or whatever."
"More a whatever than a gun."
"You need to print this, Ben." Benicia tried, but she could see on his face that he didn't at all want to do it, "Get it out there for everyone to see."
"Not that simple."
"Fisk... He killed his father, people need to know that."
Ben just sighed, "She's an old lady, confused, talking about things that maybe happened a long time ago."
"So you don't believe her?"
"Okay-" Ben huffed and pushed himself off the car, "Let's play this out. So I write up the story, get it on the front page. Then what happens?"
Benicia took in what he said and answered, "Well, everybody will see that he's been lying about his past."
"Yeah, sure, absolutely will." Ben agreed with her but went on, "Then he goes on TV again, tells everybody, yes, he lied about his past because he was just a scared little kid trying to protect his mother. Maybe he even rolls the old girl out, gets all teary-eyed. See where I'm going with this?"
Benicia just sighed loudly, "It sounds like you're going nowhere."
"Need to think this through, all I'm saying."
"He will win." Benicia pressed even further, "If we don't do something, Fisk is going to win."
"There are no winners and losers in something like this."
