Benicia tapped her pen anxiously against the table. She remembered when she got the initial call to come in. She had been with Rhea, Zoe, and Karen. And each of them had a very visceral reaction to her being asked to meet with Homeland Security. Rhea was worried and asked if she was okay. Karen just released a long sigh and shook her head. While Zoe immediately demanded what Benicia did that was illegal recently.
Unfortunately, Benicia could guess exactly why she was being called in. Her mind had trailed back to the stupid potted plant that she was given. How she was actually watering the thing to keep it alive. She only scowled as she waited in the building. She had a couple of tips about what happened at the docks. And she could only assume that Frank had been a part of it.
"Miss Duterte." A woman walked into the room, which prompted Benicia to get up and shake her hand, "I'm Acting SAC Dinah Madani. So sorry to keep you waiting."
"Don't worry about it." Benicia immediately sat back down after adjusting her skirt, "I figured you'd do a little gentle intimidation."
"Why would I want to intimidate you, Miss Duterte?" Dinah was surprised that Benicia had made the first move to sit and followed across from her.
"It's Benicia." She corrected as she shifted in her seat. Benicia watched as Dinah flinched ever so slightly. She rubbed her eye slightly which allowed her glasses to go up. Which confirmed her suspicions. There was a part of Dinah's body that was hotter than the others. Meaning an injury. "You look like you're in pain, Agent Madani."
"Oh, I'm fine."
"It wouldn't have anything to do with the incident at the docks, would it?" Benicia immediately questioned as she fixed her glasses with a small grin on her face. "I believe your car exploded, according to the license plate, but there was no police report, which seems odd."
Dinah took Benicia in this time. There was a saying about investigative journalists and reporters. The qualities that allow one to be a reporter, Benicia was clearly exerting them currently. She was calm and observant. "You're very well-informed."
"It's part of the job." Benicia hummed with a grin on her face. She twirled her pen between her fingers, "I imagine our jobs aren't dissimilar in that respect. We're only as good as our information."
Dinah matched the grin on Benicia's face, "Is it a story you intend to run?"
"Maybe." Benicia shrugged her shoulders and crossed her legs as she leaned back, "I don't know enough yet." She clicked the end of her pen and opened her journal, "Would you care to make a comment? After all, it was your car that exploded, correct?"
"Benicia-" Dinah clasped her hands together on the table, "You strike me as someone people would tend to trust. I'd like to think I could do the same."
Benicia cocked her head to the side, "Trust me to do what?"
"Not to report anything until the full story is clear."
With a long sigh, Benicia questioned, "Did you trust Carson Wolf?" That piece of information had stuck with her after she spoke with Frank. And then finding out on the news about the situation sure made her scowl.
