Benicia had her back turned to Karen, Matt, and Zoe as she watched the news on the TV inside Josie's bar. They had initially invited Rhea and Foggy as well, but the pair said that they'd like a night in. Soon, Zoe received a text to see if she would stay at Karen's for that night. Which insinuated quite a few things that were happening in that apartment.
Zoe smiled at the TV and leaned into Karen with her drink, "Gotta hand it to Brett."
"I'm glad people like him are looking out for Hell's Kitchen."
"Yeah." Zoe agreed softly before looking over at Matt, "And I'm glad someone was looking out for him."
Benicia still hadn't turned away from the TV just yet. She bit down on her lower lip before sighing, "Press are calling Castle a cold-blooded psychopath. The DA's going to have a hell of a time using his prosecution to turn herself into a hero." She reached back for her soda and turned back again, "It's all working out perfectly."
"Wow, way to bring us down." Matt chuckled as Benicia turned back around to face them, "I'm-" He was about to apologize before deciding, "Hey, Josie, would you mind turning the TV off? It's upsetting some of the regulars. I think we've had enough Punisher for one evening."
Karen laughed and raised her beer, "I'll drink to that."
"All right?" Matt raised his glass, prompting the other two to mimic him, "To Brett and... a safe Hell's Kitchen."
Zoe laughed, "Hear, hear."
Benicia set her glass back down and leaned her face into her hand causing her glasses to lift up slightly, "Mm-hm."
"I'll get us another round." Karen jumped off the stood at the table once she finished her drink, "I hope you two saved room for shots."
"Mmm..." Zoe furrowed her brows together, "If that's what we're doing, I'm using the bathroom real quick."
Benicia played with her glass a bit as she chuckled, "Oh, shots..."
"Thanks, Karen." Matt called out as she walked away. He nodded his head in Benicia's direction, "Hey... You okay?"
"Yeah." Benicia answered but when she looked up at Matt, he was making a face at her with both his brows raised, "Was that not convincing enough?"
"No, I don't think it was."
"Mmm..." Benicia scratched the back of her neck as she sat up straight, "Uh... I don't know... I just... I don't know.... Days like today remind me... how precious life can be, you know?"
