"Mr. Berkowitz. In your professional opinion, was it good for Aaron James?" Matt slammed the papers on the table as he got up.
"Our sympathies go out to the family. The whole thing... it's very unfortunate."
"Were you aware the products used in your new station were hazardous to children?"
The prosecutor yelled, "Objection!"
"I'll rephrase." Matt quickly shut the woman down, "What was attractive about Endexeoprene?"
"It's strong. It's durable." Berkowitz answered.
"And half the price?"
"Well, I do run a business."
"Is it worth endangering people in the interest of saving money?" Matt questioned.
Benicia was seated in the back of the courthouse with her notepad out as she took notes. She crossed her legs. She blew some air from her mouth to get her bangs from poking her eyes. She figured she would need to trim them at some point or just let them grow out. Benicia hadn't decided just yet. She crossed her legs and shifted in her seat. Benicia was getting used to wearing skirts. She wanted to start dressing more for herself than anything now.
"Mr. Berkowitz, if memory serves me right, your office received an urgent delivery from the Safety Commission on June 3rd. Three months earlier." Matt handed these papers to the prosecution, "I'm curious, did that have anything to do with Endexoprene?"
"I don't know what anything about that."
The prosecution stood, "Your Honor, unless Mr. Murdock can prove my client actually received these hypothetical documents, then-"
"It's not about whether he received them." Matt pressed further, "It's whether he willfully ignored them. Your Honor, I ask that this record of delivery be admitted into evidence."
Berkowitz grew nervous as he stammered, "I mean, I get a lot of those."
"What would you say is worse?" Matt asked him, "Ignoring data in the interest of cutting costs? Or neglecting to supply the court with records that might prove you purposely put people in danger? Including-"
"Your Honor-"
Matt just continued over the attorney, "Including this young man, Aaron James, who might never walk again. "
"Your Honor, we would like a recess."
Matt scoffed and shook his head, "No need. I'm done. I think he is too."
Benicia could only smile as she stood out in the hall once the trial had ended. She played with her journal for a couple of seconds while adjusting her glasses. She wasn't with the other reporters as they snapped a bunch of photos. She wasn't that kind of journalist.
She hadn't been in constant contact with Matt since Nelson and Murdock officially ended. Benicia knew she threw herself into her work but it was almost nice to have one thing consistent in her life. The last time she was with Matt for an entire day was at Zoe and Karen's wedding. Rhea was Zoe's maid of honor with Foggy as her date. And with Benicia as Karen's maid of honor, she essentially walked down the aisle with Matt.
