"Yeah." Mutt turned around and walked past Benicia, "They're taking the dogs next door. Buys us some time."
Benicia slowly walked into the room with him as he tugged his shirt off. She exhaled at the sight of all the scrapes and bruises. "Jesus, Matt... Are you not going to take care of those?"
"They'll heal fine."
Benicia just crossed her arms over her chest, "Couldn't put it on in front of her? You know, something just kinda hit me. Watching you wall yourself off from her."
"You know?"
"She told me." Benicia said as she listened to him scoff at this. She glanced down slightly as he started to slip his belt on, "She said she felt ashamed about what she did. And that everyone you ever cared about left you."
"Alright, can we not do this right now?"
Ignoring him, Benicia continued, "Is that why you insist on doing everything alone?"
"I don't insist on-"
"Pushing Foggy, Zoe, Karen, Rhea, and me away."
"I'm not pushing you away. I told you I'm tryin' to protect you-"
"I don't think you're trying to protect me, I think you're trying to protect yourself."
"Benicia, we don't have time to talk about this-"
"No, Matt, you can't just push this away too-"
"You wanna talk about this right now?"
"You are always trying to ditch us and make us hate you-"
"There are people tryin' to kill us and you wanna-"
"I have no idea when we will be able to even talk-"
"-talk about this now? We have to-"
"This might be our only chance to-" Benicia and Matt continued to talk over one another as they stepped closer to each other. Finally, Benicia grew frustrated and snapped at him, "Just shut up for a second, Matt, okay?" He shut his mouth and she just continued without waiting, "Look, I was never going to leave you up there, and I am not leaving you now. None of us fucking will. You have pushed all of us away somehow. You keep pushing and pushing despite all of us fighting back because we do not plan on leaving you. So maybe get that through your thick fucking skull. We all want you in our lives, Matt. Especially Foggy and Zoe, who are your best friends, despite the fact that you've been a complete asshole to both of them. They'd jump off of a cliff for you. Even Rhea and Karen."
"Yeah."
Benicia felt like she had whiplash, "Okay. So, what, you agree?"
"That could actually work."
"I don't get it. What could work?"
"Foggy and Zoe."
Benicia just shook her head and shut her eyes, "What-Did all you hear was Zoe and Foggy's name from that? Matt-"
