CHAPTER SIXTEEN: A BREATH OF FRESH AIR
Dominic
I WAS having a hard time fixing Venice's hair when Heart came.
"Done. You're so pretty, Venice." "You love your new hair pin?"
"Very good. Here, take these sweets for you,"
She's been rewarding my daughter for every achievement Venice has in a day. If Heart doesn't want my daughter to get attached, then why is she here?
"I thought you don't want to go on a date with me?" I asked, a moment after.
Heart hissed.
"What are we going to call this then?" My brow shot up when Heart opened her mouth, waiting for her to define everything. "Venice, go to your Mamita and wait for us with her," utos ko kay Venice. "We'll gonna talk first then we will leave, hmm?"
"Anong pag-uusapan natin? Ano 'to, uhm, fieldtrip! Okay na? Okay, let's go Venice,"
Is Heart avoiding being alone with me or is she courteous? Am I a threat to her?
Confusing at its finest...
I tried calling my sister but the call didn't go through. "Talaga naman ang batang iyon. Anyway, what's with you and Venice's tutor?"
"Friends, I guess?" Hindi ako sigurado. I'm not too fond of Heart for making me feel a bit frustrated up until now. Heart hates me for being an asshole. I tried to redeem myself many times, but no matter what, I did.
"Have you moved on?" tanong na hindi ko pa natatanong sa aking sarili simula ng bumalik ako dito. "Because if not, better not to lead her and give false hope, son. Look after Venice and prioritize her feelings too aside from yours."
"I'm not thinking about her, 'Ma."
"That's good then, but remember what I've said, Dominic."
"Heart is a breath of fresh air, 'Ma."
"Find the courage, and don't let your new fresh air get polluted."
Tumango ako saka matipid na ngumiti. I kissed mom on her cheeks after I bade my goodbye. The last time I let my daughter run, she got lost which led our way to Heart. I could still remember the first time our gaze met, her skin against mine and the first kiss we shared.
