summary: When Tom misses Sophia's first steps, you decide to surprise him on set to showcase his little girl's accomplishment.

"Oh my God!" You squealed when you saw Sophia pull herself up on the side of her walker. "Is she going to do it?!" Savanna exclaimed from beside you. You giggled to yourself, watching as Sophia's blue eyes trained themselves on you and Savanna.

"Come to mommy, Sophia!" You extended your hands forward, motioning for the little girl to walk towards you. She had been trying for the last few weeks to walk and you were waiting for the moment her little feet would step forward. And just as the thought crossed your mind, Sophia put one foot in front of the other, wobbly. She steadied herself and took another step.

You nearly screamed, scooting yourself closer to her on the floor as you opened your arms.

"Go, Soph, go!" Savanna whistled out to the darling girl whose smile was spread wide across her face, exposing her teeth.

Sophia took one more step forward and ultimately fell into your open arms. You started clapping, Savanna hurrying to the floor to rub her back. "You did so good, sweetheart!" You kissed her cheeks, feeling as she laughed in your grasp.

"Oh, we've got to call daddy!" You exclaimed, grabbing your phone from the table. Tom was located about three hours away, filming an upcoming movie and you were beyond heartbroken that he missed his daughter's first steps, but you just had to tell him. On the second ring, Tom's gorgeous voice flooded the line.

"Hi, darling. Is everything okay?" Tom asked you and you could practically hear the smile.

"Tommy, Sophia just took her first steps!" You announced.

"Really?! Oh my God!" He cried out. You put the phone on speaker, Sophia already catching a snippet of his voice.

"Dada!" She blubbered, her hands at her mouth.

"Oh, my littlest darling. Hello, gorgeous! Did you take your first steps? Oh, daddy's so proud of you, sweet girl." Tom cooed instantly to his little girl, causing tears to prick at your eyes. You could hear the edge to his voice, the heartache he felt. It was seeping through his accent and he didn't even realize it.

Sophia mumbled a series of noncoherent words, the main ones recognizable being mama, dada, and Bub, her name for Bobby since she couldn't pronounce it. You and Savanna were trying to teach her Backstreet Boys lyrics, somewhat succeeding, but it hadn't came through yet.

Savanna took Sophia from you while you went back to your husband.

"Love, I'm hurt." Tom laughed quietly on the other line. You inhaled deeply, gazing over at Sophia who was climbing all over Savanna in squeals.

"I know, baby," You sighed deeply. "I shouldn't have called, I'm sorry." You sheepishly said to which Tom instantly interjected.

"No!" He exclaimed. "No, really. I'm glad you called me. Hopefully, she'll want to walk when I get home this weekend." He sighed, making you chuckle. "I just wish I would've witnessed the first few steps, y'know?"

You nodded your head and heard a string of voices over Tom's line.

"Do you need to go, Tommy?" You asked, to which he sighed.

"Yeah, they're ready to shoot the next scene. I'll call you afterward, darling. Kiss Sophia for me. I love you." He spoke, his voice laced with sadness.
