summary: A game of Hide & Seek for Tom and Sophia when you take your daughter with you without Tom's knowledge.

Drabble Prompt #77: "I lost our child."

-----

"Daddy, can we play hide and seek?" Five-year-old Sophia asked Tom with bright blue eyes gazing up at him. He smirked, gazing down at his daughter with a wide smile.

"You know I'd never pass up a game with you..." He trailed, rubbing her shoulder. Sophia smirked.

"I'm the best hider." She giggled quietly. You were currently upstairs getting dressed to head to the store. Grabbing one of your jackets out of the closet, you threw it over your shoulders and made your way down the stairs. You made your way down to see Sophia scrambling, making you chuckle.

"Baby, do you want to go to the store with me?" You asked the little girl whose eyes were immediately ignited with excitement. However, you never knew her and Tom were playing hide and go seek. So once you hurried Sophia out of the door with you, Tom yelled out from the back of the house.

"Ready or not, here I come, darling!" He exclaimed. Tom walked out from the back of the house where their usual counting spots were, his eyes first surveying the living room. He knew Sophia liked to hide behind the curtains sometimes, so he checked there first.

No Sophia.

He smiled to himself and checked behind the chair in the corner of the room.

Not there either.

He then made his way into the kitchen, pulling open one of the empty cabinets you had cleared out which Sophia used to her advantage. "Got you!" Tom called out, only to find the vacant space. His eyebrows knitted as he released a chuckle, deciding he was going to check in her bedroom. He walked in there and immediately lifted the bed skirt to her bed, not viewing any source of tiny feet.

"Oh, my littlest darling..." He trailed with a smile, making his way over to the closet. No Sophia.

Chuckling, he knew his daughter well. She was smarter than the average five-year-old, therefore her hiding choices had soon become slightly advanced as the game progressed. Tom made his way into yours and his shared bedroom, checking in the closet and then underneath your bed. He would be lying if he said his heart didn't falter when he saw absolutely no trace of his daughter.

Huffing, ten minutes had already passed. He had checked the staircase, the laundry room, and the remainder of the kitchen. He searched the guest bedroom and bath, the furniture, just to see if maybe she stowed herself behind a cushion. He gazed behind every curtain in the house whether it was a bedroom or shower.

He was beginning to worry. There was no sight of this child.

"Alright, darling... You win! Daddy can't find you." Tom rang his voice loud across the house. He remained put, trying to catch any inference that tiny footsteps were pounding against the wooden floors of your shared home, but alas, none were heard.

"Where the hell are you?" Tom whispered more so to himself, scratching his face. But then his eyes maneuvered to the french doors that led out onto the back patio where the fenced-in pool was. His eyes widened and he walked out there, desperately yelling Sophia's name to no avail. She wasn't anywhere on the outside of the house, backyard-wise. He then checked the front of the home, his fingers brushing through his hair anxiously.

Wherever she was, she was hidden.

"Baby, I'm serious. You won! I lost!" He smiled to himself as he walked back inside. Bobby picked his head up and turned it from side to side at his owner's expression. Tom gazed down at him, his eyes resting on Sophia's jacket that was draped across the counter.
