As you finally get the chance to visit Chris' house by the sea, a sweet torture that it is to spend time alone with him and see inside the mind and heart of the man who has stolen your own, you get the opportunity to remember that first summer. The summer that started it all and sent you spiraling down this path of endless painful love. You remembered your first meeting with him.

-----

"This is so... beautiful."

The words left your lips in a breathless whisper, as if you were afraid of saying them out loud in case someone – someone that you didn't want to that is – would get to hear them and somehow take them from you, steal them before you had the chance to fully experience them. Stealing this truth, the kind of truth that made your heart swell inside your chest and your eyes get glossy, would be the greatest crime in this very moment. It would be equal to stealing the emotions that filled your chest – emotions that had long ago nested within your heart and would never leave for a long as you were alive, so painfully and yet beautifully familiar, that you would be scared to share them with anybody. Anybody else but him, that is.

"Thank you." his voice, ever sweet as honey, came to your ears as if to sweep you even more off your feet "I've- I wanted it to feel like home, so I tried to do my best."

It was almost painful to tear your eyes away from the sight that expanded before you, what with the sun setting and casting a myriad of colors across the sky, over the water and inside the villa, over every personal object. But looking next to you at the man was just as if not more stunning of a sight than you could ever possible find anywhere else. It was almost as if all the scenery around you had just found its embodiment in him, his eyes as blue as the water, the colors of the sunset cast all across his face, his smile warmer than the summer itself, somehow even sweeter thanks to the soft orange hue of the sun, all of it making it now impossible for you to look away from him.

"It does." you whispered, but this time not of fear of someone taking the truth of this moment away but because of awe of the feelings that that bloomed in your heart for him "It really does. Believe me, it's..." you looked back out of the floor-to-ceiling windows "It's one of the most beautiful places I've seen. You've done an incredible job, I- Thank you so much for bringing me here. It's warm, it's calm and it feels like..."

You couldn't find the words, they were never going to be enough perhaps, but looking back at him you knew you didn't really need to try to.

"I wanted you to see it. I wanted to hear what... your opinion of the place is. Many others have seen it but I just-" he smiled a bit nervously, if that was ever enough to describe his state at the moment, eyes casting down for the briefest of moments "I suppose your opinion matters more than anybody else's. I'm really happy you get to finally see it." a sigh to break the silence "There are many things in here that feel different from anywhere else and I hoped you would get to- I'm... glad you say that, is all."

"I know. I know." your smile mirrored his, your eyes going soft as you looked around at the small objects scattered around the house, in just the right place as any decoration should be, blending seamlessly with the environment in a way that someone would not think they stood out in particular but for you they were like everything else was there to make them stand out. From the small statues on the corner, next to the vast bookshelves filled with old and new books, the armchairs by the small table next to the bookshelves as well, to the paintings on the walls and even, much as you tried to hide your smile at that, the crystal bowl of peaches which looked both real and not.

"I don't think there was anybody who could get it so I did most of this on my own. It was near impossible but I wanted to try to make it work, I wanted to make this place and everything inside it remind me of-" he pursed his lips with a small frown "I wanted it to be different, not like any other house you could just buy to show off wealth. I wanted it to feel like-"
