"It's me or her," her shrill voice demanded.

You had tried hard not to listen, their fight wasn't your business; besides Jake would tell you later. However, it was growing increasingly more challenging not to listen when you were the subject of their debate.

"Jenni let's not be ridiculous," a deeper voice interjected before she could continue.

Jake.

You could picture him as he said it, hands running nervously through his growing brown hair. He had always hated confrontation.

"You spend more time with her than me. Last time I check I was your girlfriend."

"She's my best friend. I want to see her." "That's the problem, she roared, you rather be with her than me."

"That's not true," Jake weakly countered.

"Me or her," she hissed.

Your heart was pounding fiercely against your chest and you strained your ears harder to hear his answer.

"I can't choose. (Y/n) is...he trailed off, and you." "I need you both."

"Jake I'm tired of feeling second best." Jenni's voice wavered, all the venom was gone.

In any other situation, you would've pitied how hurt she sounded. "Me or her."

"Fine then, you!" Jake snapped.

You felt numb. You had, foolishly, assumed after 10 years you would mean more to Jake than some girl he started dating 8 months ago.

You were wrong.

Whatever else was being said didn't reach your ears, and you didn't care; all you knew is that you had to get out.

"Hey Jake, it's me, (Y/n), and I called to tell you...I'm drunk, really drunk," you slurred into the phone.

"No, that's not it. What was it?"

"Ow," you whined as your toe hit your coffee table, causing you to drop your glass and it shattering.

"Oh yeah, I'm sorry about leaving tonight without saying goodbye, I couldn't stay. You understand. I know you chose her. I hate you for it...sorry. Really though I'm just jealous. Jealous because she gets you. Jealous because I want you," you sighed into the phone.

"Oh, and Jake, I guess since it's my last chance to say it...I love you. I mean really love you, not as a best friend should. I think I'm in love with you, you paused I know I'm in love with you Jake."

"Ooook, well I'm falling asleep," you paused as a yawn passed your lips.

"You love me, giggles vibrated through the phone, I mean I love you."

"Well, I guess, goodbye. Goodnight Jakey."
