Summary: You were burnt out from long hours at work. It was affecting your mental health and your relationship with Tom. He just wants you to smile

Warnings: angst, fluff, cute!Tom, anxiety attack

You had had a long tiring day at work and your emotions were all over the place. You worked long hours and the company never seemed to recognise your hard work to the point where you were either going to quit or have a breakdown. You were on verge of the latter, everything piling up just waiting to topple over.

Your long-term boyfriend Tom Holland had noticed a change in your behaviour and was becoming increasingly worried about you. He had seen you beaten down before but never like this. He was going crazy about what to do for you, seeing you in this state broke him. He noticed the long hours you put in at work, you were out the door before he had woken up and often returned home when he was in bed. The one thing he would never do is leave you, not when he knew something was bothering you, not without trying to help.

You spent your days off in your office working, or in bed either asleep or awake staring into the distance. Your boss was always on your back about your workload telling you that due to budget cuts your workload would be increasing as they fired other staff. He kept you on for your quick ability at getting through your work, he never showed his appreciation for you. You turned up before him and left after him, he noticed but never said anything, loving your work ethic.

On your second week of doing this, Tom developed a habit of leaving the lowlights under the cabinets on. This made you smile Toms' thoughtfulness making you smile. He then started to leave you leftovers on the side with a note. The note always said, 'please don't stay up too late baby I love you'. The first night you saw it you shed a tear; how did you end up with someone so amazing by your side? Tom was as perfect for you, as you were for him. Everyone noticed that when you two were in a room together you both only had eyes for each other regardless of whether you were together or not, always gravitating towards each other.

As soon as you met Tessa you fell in love with her. The way she would nudge your leg to try to get your attention, how she would wait patiently by the door for your return from work. When you and Tom first started dating you would often go on dates to walk Tessa or to for picnics that she would tag along with. Tom had worried when you moved in that it would unsettle her, but she took quickly to your presence and scent in the house constantly.

Tonight was different, the pressure of work finally taking its toll on you both physically and mentally, you felt drained. All you wanted to do was crawl into bed and cry. You wanted to be able to switch off, to not be covered in paperwork from the moment you woke up to the moment you went to sleep. It was making you crazy, luckily you had Tom who made sure you ate dinner or else you'd be sure you would forget. You never ate breakfast and only grabbed something from the canteen vending machine at work. Tom always made sure you were cared for.

Before you had even walked through the front door you had taken your work shoes off, to make sure you didn't wake your sleeping boyfriend. With silent footsteps you make your way to the kitchen, your shoulders slumped forward and head hanging low. On the island in the kitchen you noticed a bowl of pasta with the same note with a heart attached to the bottom. You weakly smiled, thankful of Tom and his pasta.

You opted to eat it cold as to not make much noise, using the microwave would have created a low hum, it might not have been loud but it was more noise than you were willing to create at such an ungodly hour. You sat on the sofa in the front room eating your pasta slowly absolutely drained. When you finished the bowl of pasta you placed it on the coffee table and sat back on the sofa.

You lolled you head back, staring at the ceiling as time dragged slowly. That's when the tears first started to fall. Once they were streaming down your face you sat forward placing your head in your hands, sobs escaping you. The next thing you know arms are strongly wrapped around you; your head placed on Toms' chest.

He started rocking you shushing you. He hated seeing you cry, not knowing what was causing it. He had an idea but didn't want to push it. "Baby, you need to calm down. I need you to breathe." You couldn't help the sobs racking your body, clutching to Tom like he was your lifeline.

"I, I, I can't Tommy. I can't do this; I can't do a a a any of it. I'm f f f falling apart." Your sobbing and breathing were uncontrollable. You were scaring Tom and also yourself. You had never had an attack like this before. A considerable amount of time had passed before your breathing returned to normal, Tom rocking you back and forth whispering into your ear telling you that he loved you and that he was here for you.

You pulled away from him, "I'm sorry you had to see me like that." Your head hung low. Guilt washed over you. You had woken up your sleeping boyfriend and you hated yourself for it, seeing the purple bags under his eyes you came to the conclusion that he must have been waiting up for you to return.

"Stop. Don't apologise love. You need to stop, you need a break, you are burning yourself out. Can't you see what you are doing to yourself." He sounded weak and defeated, like he had been bottling his emotions up, just like you had. He had moved to crouch in front of you, grabbing both of your hands so he had your full attention. "You need to take some time away from work. I love you but I don't see you anymore. I don't see you smile; I don't hear you singing in the kitchen dancing to your favourite songs. Baby, I miss you."

You wanted to cry again, not realising the strain you were not only putting on yourself, but your boyfriend and your relationship. You nodded your head weakly "I'll try Tommy. I love you, and I miss you too. I miss our walks with Tessa, going on picnics, being carefree with you. I'll take some time, but it may take some time, I can't just take time off." You lowered your head again in shame not wanting to meet Tom's eyes.

"Chin up baby, don't let your crown fall. We need to make time for each other, I can wait until you get time off work, but reduce your workload it isn't healthy." You hummed in agreement, lifting your head again. "Now before we go to bed and cuddle, I want to see you smile." With that he started to litter your face with kisses until you were smiling and giggling, begging him to stop. He pecked your lips one final time before dragging you upstairs to bed.
