You were standing backstage at the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, watching your father with the rest of the Avengers cast on stage promoting their upcoming movie Avengers: Age of Ultron.

You were the oldest child and daughter of Hollywood actor Robert Downey Jr.

Your father was eighteen years old theater actor when you were born. Your biological mother was seventeen years old and was dating your father.

When she discovered that she was pregnant with you, she didn't want to keep you. She didn't want to become a teen mother. Your father loved you and wanted to keep you no matter what.

Your parents broke up when you were born, and your father never heard from your biological mother again. Your biological mother had signed her parental rights away.

Your father became a single parent and raised you with the help of his mother and sister.

Your father wasn't perfect. He had his personal demons with drugs. He tried to be the best father he could, but it was difficult when he would get into trouble time and time again with the law and not get the proper help that he needed.

When he was in and out of rehab and jail, you lived with your grandmother.

You loved your father dearly, and he loved you more than life itself. However, it wasn't enough for him to stop going down the wrong path in life.

Your father was arrested on drug and weapons charges in 1996 after he was stopped by the police, who found an unloaded .357 Magnum and small amounts of heroin and cocaine in his car. After multiple probation violations, he was sentenced to prison in 1999. That was the final straw for you.

When you had turned seventeen years old, you graduated high school a year early and enlisted in the United States Army.

You didn't tell your father that you enlisted. Your grandmother was the one who told him.

Your father, who was trying to get an appeal, was stunned that you had enlisted and didn't tell him about it. He didn't know how to feel about his only daughter at the time getting into the Army.

By the time his appeal was accepted and he was out of jail, you were already gone. All you did was leave him a letter, and that was it.

When he received that letter and read it, a realization had hit him, and that was the moment that he decided to get clean once and for all.

You had written letters to your family and kept in contact with them all except your father.

Your father had written tons of letters to you while you were away. You read them but never responded to any of them.

It wasn't until your grandmother had mailed you a recent picture of your father that you realized that he looked clean and happy.

That was when you decided to reach out to your father. You came home for the first time in a year since you enlisted.

When you came home, you and your father reconnected again, and your relationship with him was slowly coming back together.

Over the years, you were in and out of deployment. You eventually worked your way up and became Sergeant Major.
