~°°~Every empty hole can be filled with the peace one derives from reading the Qur'an~°°~
Abuja, Nigeria.
9th January, 2022.
3: 54 pm.
One blink of an eye and a week had passed by already. And within those days, a lot of unplanned things had occurred. But most of the things that happened were expected to - they still left room for surprises.
Imran ventured back to camp with the team upon orders from their headquarters.
Their team - erudite - the bomb disposal squad of seven people was posted to the square brigade camp outskirts the city of Abuja.
It was going to be a new camp, considering the fact that no army base had ever resided there. And just that as a fact made it dutifully stressful for the team.
"Should we stop here?" Lieutenant Raymond whom they called Ray asked. He was driving one of the armoured personnel carrier (APC) so he simply had to.
"Let's level up" Sayf curtly replied using his hand to cover the scorching sun above their heads. That act wasn't so he could block the sun, it was so he could see further ahead for the perfect spot to set up their camp.
Ray just replied with a simple 'ok' and drove further. Curt matched curt.
"I keep hating the unknown person who shot up the idea to post us to such a place sef, abi we fault una?" Imran complained.
"Captain IM, the town just keeps on expanding, and bombs just keep on exploding hence the army has to take measures before the people who move to places around here get blasted into thin air" Zanna replied to Imran.
Zanna was what we referred to as the life of the party. He had an effortless way of joking around even when they were face to face with danger. That trait of his was something that sharpened their bonding.
"Halt here" Sayf's voice came through a little shortly after that. He couldn't care less about their conversation.
Ray halted first. That gave the person driving the other APC behind them to stop too. Those two words of Sayf's held more command and authority more than the billion words of any of them.
And they knew better than not to obey.
Not because any of them was afraid of him, he hadn't life-threatened any one of them really. It was because of how cold he was towards everyone, shivers were definitely ready to signal anytime he spoke.
And they didn't want to strike the wrong spot - so, they simply abide.
Despite all that, their occupational relation made them his only friends, through and through.
They all got off the car unloading the luggage they had, placing them aside.
It took few minutes of scrutiny before they started raking the bushy environment. And because of how good they were, it took them almost no time to finish up all together.
The next thing they did was building up the tents, and that took them longer because somehow, not all of them mastered the process of setting up a tent.
And they had to set up five.
One was a little bigger than three and one was the smallest among them. Sayf stayed in the smallest tent, Imran, Ray & Jabir in the biggest one, Zanna & Hameed in one and Aliyu & Abdul-Jalal in one.
