The rest of the week passes by quickly. Lisa and I have grown so close, each and every single beautiful day. Every moment that I am with her, she makes me feel so incredibly special. We share all of our past memories with each other, because it's so much easier than talking about our future. The days are unfortunately flying by, all too quickly. We both know that we're only on sweet and borrowed time.
I can't even bear to think about having to say goodbye to Lisa, just yet. The thought already leaves me with an unfathomable void. I suppose I should get used to having to saying difficult farewells, because both Rosé and Jisoo are returning to Australia tomorrow. The mood over breakfast is very sombre and quiet.
"I can't believe that today is your last day here on the ranch, Rosé." I bring a comforting arm around her shoulder, smiling at the person who has quickly become such a dear friend.
Rosé's face drops. "I'm so bummed out to be leaving too. I only wish we weren't." she says sadly.
I playfully nudge against her; a gentle nudge to stop her on dwelling on the sad fact that she soon will be Manoban Ranch. "Have you and Jisoo got anything special planned for tonight?" I ask cheerfully, anything to at least get a smile from Rosé's smooth expressionless face.
She frowns with a gloomy twist of her mouth. "I don't think so We have a long day of travelling tomorrow, so we won't be doing anything too wild." Rosé sullenly replies.
I smile at my still forlorn looking friend. Her porcelain complexion is looking even more pale than usual. I reach for her hand, trying to offer some comfort. "Well, it's steak night this evening...with a live band. Would you like to join me and Lisa?" I ask with a broad grin, in the hope it will lift her gloomy mood.
Rosé's eyes dart up at mine, shining brightly for the first time this morning. "That would be great, Jennie." she replies with a new and happy lightness to her voice. I return her bubbly smile. In such a short space of time, I already think of Rosé as a lifelong friend. The first time we met, we clicked right away. I felt comfortable around her. Sometimes, you can meet a person and know that they're going to become someone very important in your life. I felt that way with Rosé and I'm so grateful for having met her.
My hand remains on hers, much longer than necessary. "I really am going to miss you, Rosé." My chin begins to quiver as the words leave my mouth. I try to rein in my emotions, knowing how emotionally fragile Rosé is feeling right now.
She tilts her head; her eyes tearily soften. "Maybe we can swap contact details and stay in touch?" she asks hopefully.
I clasp my hands tighter around her. "I would really like that." I answer with an elated smile, feeling better knowing that Rosé wants to stay in touch with me. Sitting beside each other, we remain silent, in quiet contemplation. The quietness is only broken when Rosé swivels around in her chair to speak to me, her face now wearing an irresistible grin.
"Anyway, you're not going to have too much time to miss me. You get to have, Dreamy McCreamy all to yourself for another whole week." she teases me with a good-natured shove, while taking a sip of her coffee.
My brows draw in closer together, my face tightening with doubt. "That is exactly what I'm afraid of, Rosé." I freely admit, pressing my lips together. The more time I spend with Lisa, the more I am falling. When the time comes to say goodbye, the more painful the hurt will be.
"Everything is okay, between the two of you, isn't it?" Rosé expresses her concern.
My voice begins to quake. "It is absolutely perfect." I sink back into my chair, nervously fiddling with my teaspoon.
Rosé now looks completely confused. "Am I missing something here? If it's so bloody perfect, what exactly is the problem then, Jennie?" she asks with such a frown, her brows are now closely squished together.
