The Nose Wrinkler

I can't believe I'm going to do this. I thought I would never do this in my life. That was, until I met these people. But, I would rather face this than go back to my house.
"Hey Kerry?", I ask her, biting my lip in anticipation.
"Yes?", she says back, looking to me when I don't say anything. I should just stop and go back to my house. I shouldn't do this to her. She just had an emotional day where she almost freaking killed herself and I want to ask her if I can sleepover? She needs her space. I'll go away.

But that place. That loneliness within. There's nothing there now. Nothing. Without even knowing what I'm going to say, I say it.
"Can I stay for the night?", I ask her in a breath, feeling the dreadful feeling that I'll have to go back to my house.
"Sure. But won't your parents be worried? You haven't been home in about a week", Kerry says, confused.
"Um...no. Dad's...away. He's with my..mum...helping her with some things", I say, not knowing what else to say. I can't even remember if I said my mum was a chef or a clothes designer. Or a business woman. I'll have to keep it vague so no one catches me up.

"Oh okay. I'll have a maid set up a bed in my room for you to sleep on. Unless you want to sleep in a different room", she says.
"Whichever is easiest", I say, not really all that bothered where I sleep, as long as it's not in my house.
........

The night comes and Kerry is already fast asleep. I still can't make sense of her yet. I thought she was popular and mean and uncaring before I actually met her. Then, when I started to get to know her, I thought that she was just a nice person living a cool life with a lot of friends. Now, I see the pain, anger, and sadness that she keeps locked within her.

I see a lonely girl with a lot of problems hanging around her head and no one to save her from the depths of depression.

I see me.
...............

Half way through the night, I hear a scratching noise. I turn over, trying to get back to sleep, feeling like it was just a dream. Then, I hear a whistling noise and I start to feel cold.

I tug on the quilt, and hear a small voice singing. I roll back over and turn on Kerry's bedside lamp to see what it is. That's when I see a figure leaning over her, and I jump. The figure is stood still, not singing now. I stand up.
"Who the hell are you?", I ask, grabbing the lamp and using it as a weapon, trying to pull it towards me but the lead stuck into the socket won't let me.
"Huh?", Kerry's sleep voice says, as she awakens. She looks to me and then to her other side, and starts screaming.

The figure runs back to the window and I drop the lamp, climbing over the bed and to the window. I grab the figures top and pull whoever it is back. The figure starts trying to break out of my hold.
"Who the hell are you and what the fuck are you doing here?!", I ask the figure. The figure tugs out of my grasp and pulls out a gun. Kerry screams louder and I put my hands up. The lamp has made the figure appear in more than just a black outline. I can see the figure is wearing a pair of blue jeans. And then I see the familiar purple colour and shape.

What an idiot.

I walk over to the wall and the figure starts yelling at me to freeze. I turn the light on and the figure is a girl. With a nerf gun.
"You can stop screaming now, Kerry", I tell her and she stops.

She looks at the figure and walks towards her.
"Natalie? Natalie Forrest?", Kerry asks her. Okay, this is starting to get freaky.
"I'm sorry, Kerry. I think I must have been sleepwalking", the girl says, blinking as if she's just woken up.
"Oh, put a sock in it", I say.
"Why the hell are you in my room?", Kerry says, ecstatically.
"I-I just w-wanted to w-win the talent s-show. I thought if you heard me s-sing to you again and again, you'd subconsciously get it in your head and you'd pick me", the girl says, wrinkling her nose.

Ah, the nose-wrinkler. I remember her.

"So you broke into my house and sang to me in my sleep?", Kerry asks her.
"Yeah?", she replies.
"Okay, well, you should go now. We'll talk about your punishment on Monday", Kerry says, crossing her arms over her chest and frowning at her. The girl starts to walk towards the door, when I stop her.
"What are you doing?", I ask her.
"Going home. What does it look like?", she snaps at me.

"Oh. Well, people are sleeping in this house. Don't want to wake them. You should go out the window", I tell her.
She stares at me with wide eyes.
"What? Do you want me to plummet two storeys down and die?!", she exclaims, almost squealing like a pig.
"Well, that's the way you came up and probably how you were going to go out before we caught you", I say, shrugging my shoulders. She looks to Kerry, pleadingly.
"Devon has a point", Kerry says.
..........

She climbs down out the window, using the pipes to get down, wrinkling her nose. Once she's down, she looks up at us.
"I'm really sorry about this Kerry", she calls up to us. I look at the nerf gun she'd left on the bed behind us, and catch Kerry looking at it as well. Kerry grins at me before picking it up and turning to the window. She shoots at Natalie, as she calls out in pain. Natalie runs out into the night, and I start to laugh.

"Well, it's about half past twelve in the morning and I really need to get to sleep if I want to be ready and awake for Kayleigh's guardian's party", Kerry explains.
I groan in annoyance.
"Don't worry. I've already picked out a dress for you and Rachael", Kerry says, slapping me on the back before climbing back into her bed. I shut the window and climb back into my make-shift bed.
"Night, Devon", she says once again.
"Night, Kerry", I say back, feeling a lot happier now as I drift off to sleep.
