Teddy comes home, dragging his steps.

"Hey, you alright kid ?" Sirius asks the moment he saw something was going on. "How'd the date go ?"

"We broke up."

Remus stands from his spot on the couch and pulls his son for a hug. Teddy shrugged, pretending it isn't a big deal.

"He said we weren't gonna last."

Sirius grew more annoyed the more he listens to Teddy talk about what happened.  "Do you want me to talk to him ?"

"No, it's fine. I don't want you ending up in prison." He chuckles wetly. "I know what you mean by "talk" dad."

Sirius ruffles his hair. "Like I said, if a talk doesn't make him pay, arson is the way."

They let him go after making sure he's not crying over the jerk. Then they moved to the balcony so Teddy wouldn't hear.

Remus circles his arms around Sirius' waist. "I knew that kid was trouble. The way he treated Teddy the few times he came over, drove me up the wall."

"I told Teddy already but he had so much faith in that kid. Our boy sees the best in people, sometimes it blinds him." Sirius sighs, laying back on Remus' chest.

That night Remus sits next to Teddy on his bed for an unwinding talk. Or what Teddy affectionately calls it "Therapy session with Moony".

"How'd you know dad was the one ? It's always a lesson for me." Teddy mutters.

"First off, I didn't know. We started as bestfriends and since liking your bestfriends is generally frowned upon, I didn't put too much hope into it. Second, you're still young Ted. Young and sweet, only 17-"

Remus chuckles at Teddy's fake annoyed poke. He blames Sirius entirely for this behaviour. The boy witnessed his husband poke him since he was crawling, not a surprise he adopted the habit.

"But how will I know ? I keep making bad choices and it sucks."

Remus humms, putting thought into it. "I want to come up with a nice answer but I keep remembering your dad."

"Some us are single y'know." The boy grumbles.

"No, I mean... put us as your standard Ted. Uhhh okay, you've seen us fight before right ?"

Teddy nodds. Remembering the last bad, screaming fight his parents had. He guessed it had something to do with their schedules never meeting up and Sirius gettting aggravated.

They shouted, pulling each other's nerves. It didn't take long until the raised voices stopped and that's when Teddy braved himself to peak out of his room. He saw his parents hugging on the couch, talking in hushed voices.

"I just feel so alone Pads. Teddy kept asking to go out together but you're not home when we are." He caught Remus say.

To which Sirius sighs. "I know, I'm sorry. I was caught up at work, thinking it'll set us financially. I almost lost you instead."

It's clear to Teddy that the fight wasn't between Remus and Sirius, it was between his dads and the problem.

"If you fight with your partner and they don't listen like your dad does. Or they just focus on making you feel guilty and winning the argument, they're not the one. Dad, even if he's arrogant at times, puts his ego aside when we're fighting. He listens."

Teddy understands now. His parents are setting a precedent for him.

"What else ?" He grew intrigued.
