This was a brainfart tbh
***
Eversince Lily taught Sirius how to braid his hair, Remus' world has turned upside down.
"Moony Moony !"
Remus dreads whatever he's going to see once his eyes leave the page. "Yes ?"
It's Sirius. His hair braided into a half up and half down style. He notices the tiny daisies snuck into the plaits. Definitely Dorcas' doing. The white flowers stand out between his dark hair.
"What do you think ?" Sirius beams, waiting excitedly.
Remus averts his eyes. "Does it matter what I think ?"
Mind you, his heart can't deal with Sirius Black. The constant attack is too much.
"Of course it does !"
Remus racks his brain. What do you even say ? Yes, he thinks Sirius is beautiful. Like a garden fairy who just got home from harvesting daisies. He thinks Sirius could burn his hair off and still look magical. Quite the contrary, he can't think when he's near Sirius.
"It...it.. looks good.. on you.." Remus pretends to flip through his book. "Suits you."
Sirius deflates a little. "Oh." He looks down, fingers already inching to pull the strands free.
Remus drops his book instantly. "Wait !"
"Huh ?" Sirius freezes. "What ?"
"Just.. stop. You.. I said you looked good. Why are you undoing it ?"
Remus stands abruptly then. His hands awkwardly hand mid-air, halfway from physically holding Sirius' wrists back.
"It didn't seem enthusiastic so.. I thought.." Sirius rubs his arm, chuckling bashfully.
The werewolf didn't know what to say. What words should he choose so his other secret would stay a secret ? He hated seeing Sirius so crestfallen but at the same time, he can't just blurt his feelings out.
The air is getting more suffocating with each passing minute. Remus felt his hands grow cold and stiff. He willed them to grab hold of Sirius' wrists, safely away from his hair.
"You look really good Black. I meant it. Beautiful even." Remus murmurs.
Sirius intertwines their fingers, pulling Remus closer.
"Yeah ? I don't believe you." He teases.
Remus knows this is one of Sirius' tricks to get him to trip and fall for him. It's a game they both play, the push and pull of attraction. This time Remus doesn't pull away. He stays rooted, pushing Sirius to do the same.
"I meant it Sirius." He tucks a lose piece behind his ear. His palm not leaving Sirius' cheek.
"Show me." Sirius whispers, already a breath away from meeting lips.
Remus shows him. Both hands gently cradling his jaw, keeping them tilted up. The kiss was a plunge into cold water. Remus felt like a little boy holding his breath, trying to see how long he could hold it. Now, he wonders if this'll fade once he opens his eyes.
Sirius pulls away first. His eyes wide open while his lips hung ajar. The first thing he says pulls laughter out of Remus.
"You've been using my lipbalm."
Remus blushed pink. "You said you didn't mind me borrowing it."
"I didn't ! I just didn't realize what a brilliant idea it was to mix you and vanilla honey together." Sirius stands on his tip toes again. "Let me taste it again ?"
"Of course."
