Sirius bursts into tears.

Remus, who was leaning limply on the door, merely blinked slowly at him. He looked half way to sleep not because of exhaustion but pain. He was bloody from head to toe. The wounds were being temporarily repaired by Sirius. Afterall, they couldn't possibly walk back trailing blood.

But this ? The sight of his boyfriend weak and hurt. His body was unrecognizable. Sirius could only imagine how painful the deep scratches were.

"Why are you crying love ?" Remus whispers.

His chest was too heavy to even speak. Projecting his normal voice made his throat close. Whispering will do.

"I'm not." Sirius denies, hastily wiping his tears. "

Now's not the time to be a cry baby, Sirius scolds himself. Remus is in pain and he has to focus on healing.

"You're bawling.." A deep breath. "...like James when Lily said.." A wince. "..she'd rather date the giant octupus.

"I'm really not crying Re. The shack's just dusty, got in my eye."

Remus' lips curve into a slight smile. He musters all his energy to lift his hand, bringing to cup Sirius' cheek.

"It doesn't hurt Pads." He says, gritting his teeth. "Feels like an ant bite."

Sirius puts his free hand over Remus and he squeezes.

"I'm sad you're hurting Moons." He says in a tiny voice. "I'd do anything to stop it."

Remus knows they're too young to think about marriage or whatever adults do when they fall in love. But he's 17 turning 18, fresh face out of Hogwart's and into the wild war. Being a werewolf and an on-field wizard for the Order means his life... is unpredictable.

That includes when it ends.

There he was lying on Sirius' coveted leather jacket on the Shack's dusty floor. His body's torn like a ragdoll and all he could do was stare at Sirius' beautiful face as he heals him.

Remus loves Sirius, there was no question about it. He thinks, if his days are numbered, if life isn't going to be smooth sailing, he'd want Sirius to be next to him.
The only ray of sunshine. The most annoying human on earth. The most caring.

A boy with a big heart, who cries because Remus was in pain. Sirius is sniffling right as he thinks that. The Black refuses to make a sound or admit but Remus sees the outline of his shaking shoulders. He wanted to hug him and tell him it's alright. He'd do anything for this boy.

"Sirius...Will you marry me ?"

Sirius, who was attending his legs, turned to face Remus. "Wh-what ?"

The werewolf could finally see the teary grey eyes and the rosy cheeks. The face of his star was terribly confused. Mustering up a smile, he repeats his question.

"After we graduate, will you marry me ?"

Sirius tried making sense. His brain pulled the sentence apart, going through it word for word.

"Are you serious ?" He asks, surpressing the hiccups as best as he could.

Remus' smile turns into a grin. He lamely pokes his knee. "I'm Remus, you're Sirius."

Sirius welled up again. Just when he's finished crying his eyes out.

"S'not funny Moony." He covers his face. "You're asking me a big question-"

"I am serious- I'm not joking." Remus corrects himself. "I do want to marry you. That is if... you want me too."

Sirius knows he's too young to think about marriage. Even Mrs. Potter pinched his cheeks and coo-ed at him when he proclaimed his love for a certain werewolf over dinner. But.. it felt so right. He had never felt so sure.

Just like when he knew his family's beliefs were wrong, when he knew James was his brother. He knew Remus was it for him. The moonlight protecting him from all evil.

"Look, I'm not much. I turn into a werewolf every month, sew in the holes in my clothes and we're at war. But I love you and.. and.."

Remus wants to articulate what he felt in his heart. He was a whiz with words but none came to his mind as he's looking into Sirius' silver eyes.

"I love you and.. that's all I know."

Hearing that Sirius' face contorts to a shy smile. This was the same smile he had when Remus surprised him for their first anniversary. The same smile when he reads the dumb letters Remus slips in his leather jacket pocket.

Sirius bends down for a hug. Though he was mindful not to put his whole weight of Remus. The werewolf sighs, feeling his warmth so close to him.

"Your question was the only question I've known the answer to for all my life." Sirius whispers.

"I want to marry you."

Remus turns his head slightly, kissing his cheek. "Thank you. I promise you won't regret it."

"I know I'll never." Sirius pulls away. "You can never do me wrong."

A few years later, they finally had a wedding. When Sirius looks up to a laughing Remus as they ran down the altar, he knew he was right from the start. He holds his hand tighter, he's sure.
