Hello every and welcome to another chapter of "Learn Korean - For Beginners". Today we are going to look at food and meals. Perhabs you will be able to order food in Korean after this lesson :))

I'm gonna start by giving you a few different meals and then teach you how you can order food at a restaurant or a small cafe!

Let's jump right into it.

Sandwich = 샌드위치 = saen-deu-wi-chi

Fried chicken = 치킨 = chi-ckin

Pizza = 피자 = pi-ja

Hamburger = 햄버거 = haem-beo-geo

Spaghetti = 스파게티 = seu-pa-ge-ti

Hotdog = 핫도그 = hat-do-geu

French fries = 감자튀김 = kam-ja-twi-kim (감자/kam-ja means potatoes)

Cheeseburger = 치즈버거 = chi-jeu-beo-geo (치즈/chi-jeu means cheese. 버거/beo-geo means burger.)

Tacos = 타코 = ta-co

These are easy to remember because the names are the same in English for most of them. You just have to say it in a Korean accent and you'll be good to go!

After you have mastered the pronounciation, you can order at a restaurant or a cafe!

Example 1:

One burger, please

버거 하나 주세요

beogeo hana juseyo

Example 2:

Two sandwiches, please

샌드위치 두개 주세요

saendeuwichi dugae juseyo

Do you see a pattern?

1. Name the meal you want: 버거/샌드위치

2. The number of meals: 하나/두개

3. Say please! Always be polite: 주세요

When saying the number of meals, Koreans use the Korean number system and add gae/개 at the end of each number:

One = 하나/한개. For "one" you can use the whole number or add gae/개 after 한/han (short for 하나/hana)

Two = 두개 = du-gae

Three = 세개 = se(t)-gae ("ㅅ" from "셋" is removed)

Four = 네개 = ne(t)-gae ("ㅅ" from "넷" is removed)

Five = 다섯개 = da-seot-gae

Six = 여섯개 = yeo-seot-gae

And so on!

The lesson ends here, but your practice continues! Good luck and don't hesitate to ask any questions!
