ASMR YouTube videos
We've all seen all the videos of YouTubers consume a huge amount of food. A lot of people like watching it for the sounds while others like watching it for the meals or even both.
Mukbang or meokbang is an eating brodcast started by Korean broadcasters who live streamed or filmed themselves while eating a huge (or a little) amount of food. It has become viral across the world and now even westerners have YouTube channels only for mukbangs.
Word origin
Muk (먹) means for "eat" or "eating" and "bang" (방) means for "room".  Put together it means "eating room".
Another way of translating "mukbang" is the follwing:
"Muk" comes from the original word "meokneun" = 먹는 which means "eating"
"Bang" comes from the original word "bangsong" = 방송 which means "broadcast"
So "mukbang" or "meokbang" is an abbreviation of meokneun bangsong which = eating broadcast
Consuming huge amounts
If you think you can consume as much as those influencers can, then you have definitely been influenced. While some of them and very FEW of them do have the ability to consume such huge amounts due to gastrointestinal conditions, you might reconsider doing that if you ever plan on consuming such huge amounts. Here are a few reasons why:
1. Your body won't like it: Consuming such big meals is unhealhty. Your body is not used to it and it WILL cause you problems. Either gastrointestinal or heart diseases.
2. Food waste: Have you ever considered how mukbangers manage to stay slim while consuming so much food? Well here is the answer. Next time you watch a mukbang video, notice how they cut a lot in the clips. Just before they swallow or maybe when they show a close up of their food. A lot of mukbangers make these cuts so they can spit the food out before they swallow it. Be aware if you think you'll stay slim while continuing to eat that much. Because they semselves are not eating it. Of course there are exceptions and it will be obvious if someone is actually eating the food or not.
I hope this helped you understand what "mukbang/먹방".
