Christmas Eve... Now

The magic spat Scott to the Christmas Eve... now, and he appeared in the men's restroom. He looked just like he did twelve years ago. Glancing around, the feeling of dread hit him in the gut. He sprinted out of the bathroom and into a hallway, meeting a man who stood waiting for him, "Okay, so the Mississippi factory needs to know if we want them to ship 100,000 units or 200,000. They won't ship tomorrow because it's Christmas, but they will ship Thursday, which means..."

Scott blinks, "They're not gonna ship tomorrow?"

"Yes, sir."

Scott glances around the room, "Wait, did he just say tomorrow is..." Scott snaps his head to the man, "This is Christmas Eve?" He asked in disbelief.

"Yes, sir." The man replied.

"What are you doing? Why are we working?" Scott asked in puzzlement.

"We always work Christmas Eve."

"We do?" Scott's voice sounded disembodied, and he stepped closer to the man, observing.

"Of course."

"Well, that... that's ridiculous. Christmas Eve is when you spend time with your family. Where's my family tonight?" He questioned.

"I really don't know, Mr. Calvin." The man answered with a shake of his head.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, you rarely see them, and you... don't mention them." He points out, confused by Scott's behavior. Scott pats around his pockets for his car keys, "Where are my car keys?"

Scott knocks on Laura's door, his hand on his chin in thought. It's Christmas Eve; Frost stole the coat from him. What else has he done?

CLICK.

"Hey," Scott says, just as Laura opens the door, "What are you doing here?" She grunts, leaning against the wall. "Well, I just came over to see..." Scott pauses, studying Laura's face. Her hair was disheveled and tired bags under her eyes, "See what? Why on earth would you drag yourself all the way over here?" She spoke roughly, glaring at him with disgust.

"Is that Derek?" Charlie's voice calls out behind Laura, "No. And you're not going out tonight." She turns around as Charlie appears behind her, wearing a coat and hat. "Yeah, Okay." Before noticing Scott standing at the door, he scoffs, "What are you doing here?"

"Came over to see you."

"Why?" Charlie asked, dragging the word. "Cause we don't see each other enough," Scott answered with a frown.

"What?"

HONK!

HONK!

"Come on, Charlie." A boy's voice calls out. Shaking his head, Charlie steps around his mother and pushes past Scott, "I'm outta here."

"Charlie, it's Christmas Eve." Laura tried to reason. Charlie glares over his shoulder, "Like either of us care, Mom?" Charlie continued to his friend's car, "Charlie." Scott called out, watching his son walk away.

"What?" Charlie opens his friend's door and hops in, "Come back here. Charlie!" Scott shouted. Laura shakes her head, preparing to close the door, "Good night, Scott."

"Wait, wait! Can you help me find Carol?" Scott blocks her from closing the door in front of him. "Carol?" She asked in confusion.

"Carol Newman."

"Carol Newman, the principal of Charlie's school?" She huffed in annoyance. "Yeah. Do you know where she is?" Scott's voice tightened nervously.

"I don't know. She moved away; ran out of local kids to terrify, I guess. I don't know. What is the matter with you?" Laura folded her arms and frowned at Scott, trying to decide if he was drunk or if someone had hit him in the head. Scott paced around, his hand over his mouth, "Neil. Neil and Lucy, they'll understand. Where are they?" He inquired. His gut warned him something awful had happened. "At the North Pole." Laura deadpanned with a heavy sigh.

"At the North Pole?" Now Scott is past bewilderment. Laura rolls her eyes and grabs a pamphlet on the table next to the kitchen door, and hands it to Scott, "Yeah. The North Pole." Taking the booklet, Scott reads the front and narrows his eyes in displeasure, "Frost." He growled lowly.

"What?"

"Frost turned the North Pole into a theme park." Scott seethed, glaring at the pamphlet, wishing he could burn it in his hands with the Christmas Magic he wished he had with him. "Neil has been taking Lucy to the North Pole ever since he and I got our divorce." Laura rubs her face in exhaustion and blinks tiredly at Scott.

"Divorce?"

"Are you sure you should be driving?" She watches Scott back away to his car, determined to put a stop to Frost, "I'm gonna make everything okay. I'll make everything better." He answers her, hopping in his car. "Yeah. Okay." Laura spoke with disbelief and shut the door. Driving down the road to the airport, Scott thought, "If Frost turned the North Pole into a theme park, what happened to Alfina and Bernard?"

His stomach gave a sickening twist. "Krampus attacked the Pole twelve years ago and tried to kill Bernard. But if Frost took hold of the Pole, what could have happened to him? And Alfina protects the elves; what happened to her?" He muttered to himself. Once he reached the airport, Scott hopped on the first flight to the North Pole with one thought in mind for Bernard and Alfina, "Please be alive, you two..."
