Kabanata 36 : BLOOD
Lumabas ako sa aking kwarto na pinapatuyo ang basa kong buhok gamit ng aking tuwalya. I stopped in front of our kitchen to check if Claudius was still there.
I saw an empty and quiet kitchen.
Kumunot ang noo, however I noticed a hot freshly cooked soup and some sunny side up egg placed in the middle of the table.
Lumapit ako roon dahil sa mabangong amoy nito. The mist from the soup was still swaying in the air but I did not care. I slightly bended forward to sniff the food. I instantly smiled at the satisfaction.
I could already smell the savory taste of his vegetable soup. He really knows how to cook.
“Smells good..” Someone said softly behind my back. I flinched a bit when a breathe fanning my neck. Napatingin ako sa aking likod at nanlalaki ang mga mata nang makita si Claudius.
Napalayo kaagad ako sa kanya.
“Saan ka nanggaling?” Iniwas ko ang tingin sa kanya habang pinapatuyo ang aking buhok.
He looked at me gently. “Just went out for a bit, did you miss me?”
Nanginginig ang noo ko siyang kinunotan. “Miss? Buang.” I scoffed at naglakad papuntang lalagyan ng pinggan namin.
He smiled a bit. “Are you feeling a little better now? I told you and you told me na mag-hahalf bath ka lang? Bakit basa ang buhok mo?”
Sumimangot ako. Sa sobrang tulala ko kanina sa banyo sa sobrang pag-iisip ay hindi ko namalayan na nabasa ko na pala ng tubig ang buhok ko. Huli ko na nalaman noong kumuha ako ng shampoo.
Ipinagpatuloy ko na lamang kahit basa na. Medyo, okay naman na ako ngayon dahil nakaligo.
“Hindi ko namalayan kanina na nabasa ko na pala.” sabi ko sa kanya.
“If that's so, anong pakiramdam mo ngayon? Did your fever get worse? Nanghihina ka pa ba? Tell me..” He stepped towards me and without hesitation he placed the back of his hands on my forehead.
“Hot..”
I frowned. “Hindi ah..”
“More normal than yesterday..” He stated.
I stepped away from him. “Sabi sayo eh.”
“What did you say to me ba?”
Inirapan ko siya. “Wala…”
He lightly chuckled, my heart skipped a bit and I slightly gulped at kumuha ng isang pinggan.
“Ano hinihintay mo diyan? Kumuha ka din ng pinggan mo, akala mo kukuhanan din kita?” sabi ko sa maldita na boses at umupo sa upuan sa harap ng aming lamesa. Dinaanan niya ako para kumuha din ng kanyang plato at umupo sa opposite ng inuupuan ko.
I thanked God for the food bago ako kumuha ng kanin. I was about to take the bowl for the vegetable soup when Claudius went out from his seat para lagyan ako no‘n.
“Is this good?” He asked when he already filled my bowl with a satisfying amount of vegetable soup.
Tumikhim ako nang maramdaman ang puso kong kabado. “Oo,” I answered.
Bumalik siya sa kanyang upuan at nilagyan din ang kanya.
“May pupuntahan ka ba ngayon?” he asked casually trying to make a conversation.
