"Honey, I'm home!" you called out cheerfully, leaning against the entryway wall to unzip your ankle boots, kicking them off and moving into your slippers before stepping up into your apartment.

You knew Jihoon was home, given the neat arrangement of his own sneakers in the doorway, and bounded through the house towards the living room. Smiling brightly when you spotted his feet dangling over the side of his favourite armchair, you made your way to his side. "What are you doing?"

He didn't bother glancing in your direction and grunted out, "Research."

You frowned, dropping your gaze to what he held in his hand. For a moment, you didn't put it together. But that brightly covered case belonged to your kindle, not his. You gasped. "What are you doing?!"

"I told you, research."

"Research on what?" you enquired, edging closer, trying to see the screen of your device. You hoped he hadn't read ahead on the paranormal romance you had been invested in. You prided yourself on being a patient human, but you wouldn't want to know how you'd react if he had messed up your reading percentage.

Finally, your boyfriend looked up at you, shaking the device in his hand. "On what you read."

"Why are you interested? You know I read a lot of romance novels," you answered, swallowing slowly when you realised just how many of those books had smut in them. You laughed awkwardly. "Hey, you don't need to be—"

"Are these the type of men you like?" he cut in, imploring you to focus on him then. You took in Jihoon's expression. His jaw was tight as if he was annoyed, and his deep brown eyes were hard as stone. Just what had he read that bothered him so much? You mentally went through the more promiscuous books on your kindle, trying to find the culprit for that look.

Neither you nor Jihoon were inexperienced when it came to intimacy. You both had a fantastic sex life, and you were very satisfied as his lover. So, what would make him feel insignificant compared?

Jihoon turned his gaze back to your kindle and cleared his throat. "He was tall, dark, and deadly. It was as if he was born to reach the heavens, given his six-foot-three frame, the body of Adonis personified. He was sculpted by the Gods himself, you were certain of it."

"Uhh—"

"Hang on, there's this one too. With dimples for days, he made Katie weak at the knee. Caden towered over her at six-foot-five, his emerald gaze captivated by her perusal of his exposed body. His muscles dried out her mouth, the sight of sinewy goodness making her eyes glaze over."

You laughed, this time not nearly as awkward as before. "God, you found some real winners there, Jihoon. What are you even looking for?"

"Why are there no real looking men?"

"Because this is fiction?" you offered questioningly, stepping closer to Jihoon. You had thought to climb into his lap and kiss him, but the glare he gave in return for your answer made you pause. "I don't get it," you admitted. "I don't understand why you're so bothered by this."

"Are these the type of men you really like?" he asked, sitting up and swinging his legs so his feet touched the floor. Dropping your kindle into his lap, he ran a hand over his face before placing his elbows on his knees, letting out a sigh. "I skimmed perhaps thirteen different books, Y/N."

"Looking for what?"

"A man who was like me," he admitted, and you stared back at Jihoon silently, trying to decipher why he was being insecure about what you read.

"It's fiction," you said again, shaking away your frown. "Most women writers have this innate fascination with Greek-like gods who are all impossibly tall. I don't get it either, but I enjoy the personalities of the men more than what they're meant to look like."

Watching Jihoon's expression closely, you picked up your kindle and placed it on the coffee table nearby before tugging at one of his arms. He relented his posture so you could climb into his lap, your nose soon nuzzling his jaw whilst you got comfortable.

"Not a single one of them was average height."

"Jihoon, there's nothing average about you."

"Humour me," he complained with a groan. "Soonyoung and Seokmin were talking about their girlfriends reading books with impressive men in them and how they had been teasing them about it. So, I became curious. I see you when you're reading these books, Y/N. Your flustered cheeks and your dazed little expressions. These men make you swoon."

"No," you refuted, placing a hand on his chest as you shook your head. "Words make me swoon. Heck, why do you think I'm with you? You write songs for a living, Jihoon. You make me swoon all the time."

"I don't write about six-foot-three men in my songs. Are you sure Mingyu isn't more in your height category?"

You huffed, folding your arms over your chest. "This is ridiculous. I love you. Not the men in those books, not your band members. Just you. Fiction is an escape. And you are my reality. Why are you bothered with authors writing impossible sounding men? They don't exist. At all. There is no way men like Caden exist. For one, he's a freaking vampire."

Jihoon's lips twitched, but he didn't otherwise respond. He had relaxed underneath you though, the tension seeping out of his body with how heated you had become. And now, that tension had left him and filled you instead. You were more worked up than you needed to be. Grumbling, you looked at the smug expression filling his face slowly. "You're impossible!"

"I know. But you love me anyway."

"Do you know why I read books with characters like that?" you asked, and Jihoon pulled you closer, humming for you to continue. "Because they do remind me of you. You come across as arrogant and aloof to those who don't know you. Or way too serious. But underneath it all, you're emotional and connected to those who are special to you. So are the men I read about."

"Huh. So, it's not because they're tall and have really good bodies?"

Leaning back in Jihoon's embrace, you cocked your head to the side. "Have you seen what's under your clothes recently?"

"Have you?" he asked cheekily, lifting you in his arms with ease. You shrieked, grappling his strong shoulders as he rebalanced you in the embrace. "Want to see my sinewy muscles that will dry out your mouth?"

Laughing loudly, you shook your head. "Come on, now. You're no vampire lover, Jihoon."

"I suppose not, but I can be dark and deadly when I want to be."

Your laughter continued until he had you in your bedroom, shutting the door and sealing his lips to yours.
