More than anything, you wanted to see that day that your boyfriend's eyes flashed a liquid golden color and for you to feel your own do the same.

But it wouldn't happen.

It never would.

Your boyfriend assured you that nothing could take the two of you away from each other but the mark that covered his ring finger was another reminder.

His finger was covered in thin black elegant circles and swirls whereas yours was harsh blue thick lines that were almost like stripes down your finger.

That was the thing.

You weren't each other's soulmates.

Because if you were, his eyes would change to a golden color and the tattoo-like mark on your finger would match.

In media, you would constantly see and hear about soulmates with matching ring finger tattoos and how their eyes literally lit up when they were around each other. It was ideal to be with your soul mate so you and Jongin were a bit of an oddity. And it hurt.

Madly in love and nearly identical in personality, you could have sworn you should have been each other's soulmates but his eyes never changed and nor did yours.

He was a dancer and a beautiful one at that, in fact, that's how you met. The two of you were head to head in a competition when you were sixteen and while he was flawless, you had won against him and you were his first loss – but he liked to say that him losing to you was his first real win because he met you.

"You were beautiful. I've never seen anyone dance the way you do," he said giving you a shy smile and handing you a single yellow rose.

You took the rose and scrunched your nose, "I'm sure there are others as good as me. I'm shocked I beat you, you're a bit of a legend." And that he was. You were nervous to go against the Kim Jongin because nobody had ever beaten him before – well, nobody but you and while you knew you danced well, you didn't think you danced that well.

He let out a heart wrenchingly beautiful laugh, "A legend? Not anymore, I assume," he nudged you gently, "You've got that place now."

From there, the two of you continued to run into each other at competitions and eventually after you beat him for the fourth time, he took you out to eat and the two of you became attached to each other's hips.

Six years. You had known him for six years and loved him for almost every bit of it. While you had faith in him, you also weren't sure of how meeting his soul mate would change things for you guys.

While you hadn't met your soulmate yet either, you had a feeling that you didn't want to. Nobody would be like Jongin and you knew he was more of your soulmate than your actual soulmate would be.

Nobody loved dancing, chicken nuggets, and dogs as much as the two of you.

"I'm home," you heard him call out as you finished up some paper work that you had taken home from where you worked at a local dance studio for children. He worked long hours at a bank since he had gotten a degree in accounting and while his job paid everything the two of you needed and he insisted you didn't work, you wanted something to fill your days with. What better than dance?
