"_____-yah!" Mingyu's voice came from somewhere that was definitely outside the building, and it made you remember why your neighbors hated you.
Standing up from your bed, you walked over to the tiny window in your dorm and threw it open, seeing the giant devil himself standing below. He had on his coat and scarf, and was grinning up at you with rosy cheeks from the cold.
"Hi!" he grinned up at you as if he didn't just shout up to you and disrupt pretty much everybody in your building. "Can you let me in?"
"Can you go away?" you groaned. "I'm busy with homework."
"Homework, schmomework," he scoffed.
"Wow, good one..." you muttered, but he didn't hear it.
"Let me in, we have things to discuss," he continued, pointing to the front door to the building.
You let out a deep sigh, sticking your head back in and shutting your window. Grumbling to yourself about why the hell you befriended Kim Mingyu, you put on some slippers and rushed downstairs to the door to open it. Mingyu put his hood down as he stepped inside, shaking off the snowflakes stuck to the end of his bangs. He flashed you his bright-as-sunshine smile as he unzipped his jacket.
"Happy birthday!" he cheered, tossing his arms around you.
Your brows furrowed as your cheek squished against his shoulder, managing to get out a muffled, "What?"
Mingyu let out a loud laugh as he pulled you back to arms length, his hands on your shoulders, "I know it's not until tomorrow, but I won't get to see you tomorrow because I'm going home for the weekend. So I'm here to celebrate tonight!"
"What makes you think I'm in the mood for celebrating?" you grumbled.
Everybody knew that when you turned of age, that was when you'd start finding your soulmate. You weren't sure what your thing was – Mingyu had marks that appeared on his skin was his soulmate drew on themselves, Seokmin could hear his soulmate when they sang, and poor Minghao sometimes said whatever his soulmate was saying at the time – but you weren't too excited to find out. It actually made you nervous, and you didn't really want to have a soulmate if your thing was going to be something ridiculous.
Your best friend smiled, pinching one of your cheeks and making you frown even more, "Don't be grumpy that you're going to have to find your soulmate now."
"I'm too young for a soulmate! I still have my whole life ahead of me!" you complained, turning to go back upstairs to your dorm.
Mingyu followed, his backpack hanging from his shoulders as he easily walked in step with you – walking a little bit slower just to compensate for the few inches between the two of you, "Hey, tell that to the universe."
"Clearly, that bitch never listens to me," you huffed, jamming your hands in the pocket of your sweatshirt. "Plus, it's so close to Christmas, and that means I'll be scrambling to get a Christmas gift for my soulmate at the last minute."
