"Jihoon please -"

"Give me one good reason, Soonyoung."

Soonyoung frowns, crossing his arms across his chest. "You'll just shoot it down, Ji. It doesn't matter what I say."

"That just means it's not a good enough reason to go," Jihoon mumbles, pushing past the elder and into the kitchen, where he fishes a water bottle out from the refrigerator. Soonyoung trails after him, sitting up on one of the counters.

"Theoretically speaking then, what would convince you to go?"

Jihoon rolls his eyes, opening the water bottle with a hard twist.

"I'd go if the party weren't hosted by Lord Dickhead."

Soonyoung snorts at the nickname, Jihoon joining him with a short laugh.

"I don't understand why you hate Seungcheol so much," Soonyoung muses, wincing at the sharp glare Jihoon sends him. "Sorry. It's just... We're all friends, Ji, but whenever Seungcheol's involved, it's like you hate us too."

Soonyoung's eyes drop to the floor as he mutters, "I just want to have a good time with all of us together, even if it's just this once."

Jihoon's heart aches at the sight of Soonyoung's crestfallen expression. He's been his best friend since the first grade, and is the only person he knows who can withstand and handle his bullshit with a smile.

As much as he hates the idea of being in such close proximity with Seungcheol, he absolutely cannot stand seeing Soonyoung upset.

So if going to this one party will wipe the frown off of his best friend's face, so be it.

"Fine," Jihoon says, biting back a small smile when Soonyoung hops off the counter to hug him, a bright grin on his face.

"Yes! I'll let the others know!" He pulls his phone out of his back pocket, typing idly as he speaks again: "Before you ask, there's a snack table big enough to feed the football team."

"Why didn't you tell me that sooner? I would've been convinced," Jihoon shoots Soonyoung a teasing smirk, and the elder rolls his eyes.

"Shut up."

-

Jihoon sends Seungcheol a stiff smile as he enters the party, which is returned with a tight-lipped smile and glare. He clenches a fist and brushes the encounter off when Soonyoung guides him away, pushing him towards the kitchen.

"You didn't kill him," Soonyoung says, voice slightly raised so that Jihoon would hear him over the music. "It's progress." He gestures to the kitchen island, which is littered with bowls full of snacks, "Eat to your heart's content, Ji."

Seokmin spots the both of them and enters the kitchen, a look of exaggerated shock on his face. "It is true. You're here," he glances at the chip in Jihoon's hand, and smirks, "for the food."

Jihoon rolls his eyes. "Ha ha. It's good to see you too, Seokmin." The younger smiles cheekily, taking Soonyoung by the arm.

"I'll be borrowing him, then. Keep the snack table well guarded," Seokmin salutes, and Jihoon salutes back, a chip in his mouth, watching the two join the large crowd of mingling party-goers.
