summary: out of all the customers to have before closing your shop, why does it have to be someone with an abysmal flower taste like ham wonjin?

-----

'alright, i'll be there.'

a sigh escaped your lips, rolling your eyes afterward. your friends did it again. another blind date fixed by your friends, just because you've been stuck in your flower shop since the first week of february. they even told you to take it as some kind of late valentine's date— the thought alone enough for you to mentally facepalm.

you looked at the time, there were only a few minutes left before the closing. surprisingly, today was still as bustling as any other day with people getting bouquets for themselves or their loved ones.

the bell chimed above a customer's head, probably the last one you'd have for today.

"what flowers are you looking for?" you asked with a faint smile.

his hand reached for the back of his head, scratching it for a moment as his eyes scanned the area. a frown spotted on his visage whenever he came across the flowers you assumed he wasn't aware of the existence. "i guess, i'll have a bouquet of that variation of roses."

you followed the direction he pointed, you were sure there were no roses in the display anymore as it was already sold out earlier. variation of roses? for goodness sake, that's a damned carnation. turning to look at him once again, you spoke, "carnations, you mean?"

"whatever it is." he met your gaze, a forced smile given to you.

"do you have anything else you wanted to add to the bouquet?" you asked, the white carnations could suffice, but it was a little boring for you.

he sighed at your question, pointing to other random flowers— chrysanthemums and lilies placed down in his judgment.

carnations, lilies, and chrysanthemums! what a perfect choice! it made you unsure whether you were to make a bouquet for his special someone or you were to arrange some kind of funeral wreath.

"may i ask what these flowers would be for?" another question was thrown to him and once again he furrowed his brows, getting impatient with your queries, the same way you were getting slightly irked by his taste for flowers.

he pulled out his phone, checking for the time. "a first date."

"i see, i don't think the flowers of your choice would please your date," you uttered, trying to be as cautious with your words. one thing you loved doing as a florist would be recommending some other flowers to your customers. "the combination you chose earlier was exactly the best flowers for a funeral. how about i arrange some sunflowers and gerberas for you?"

without even asking what those flowers were, he answered you with much of a brimming disinterest. "sure, sure. just be fast with it."

if only he wasn't your customer, you could have already rolled your eyes on him. but he was, so as much as possible you tried to remain nice to him.

an inaudible sigh left your lips as you turned to the flower freezer to retrieve some of the flowers you mentioned. all of them still as fresh as if it was delivered just a few minutes ago. instantly, your forced smile turned into a genuine one as you allowed yourself to go with one of your favorite tasks— flower arrangements.

all the time you were arranging his bouquet, the male was quiet in his place. he only lifted his head when you settled his order on the counter. a brow raised as his index finger pointed out some of the details. "am i going to pay for those small white circle things?"

small white circle things? you cocked a brow at his words, looking at the bouquet to check what he was referring to. "the baby's breath? yes." you began typing in the costs, eventually printing his receipt. "the bouquet will be 63,000 won."

he pulled his card out, ready to hand it to you but stopped halfway. "shouldn't i get a discount? i mean, that's not even the bouquet i asked for."

you distinguished the hint of teasing in his voice, however, you were in no mood to take his silly antics. not when he called carnations roses, not when he regarded baby's breath as small white circle things, not when he first planned to give his date a bouquet of flowers that could make up a funeral wreath.

"no," you flatly said and grabbed his card, catching sight of his name in the process. ham wonjin.

"at least i tried." hunching his shoulders up, his focus went back to his phone again.

it ended pretty quickly after you gave him back his card and the bouquet. for a moment, you were relieved that the day had already ended. all that was left for you to do was close the shop—

"the blind date!"

you managed to get to the cafe just on time. thanks to your maximum effort to speed up the closing process of your store, from checking the balances to tossing the flowers back to the freezer. you weren't really excited about the date. in fact, you were kind of suspicious about who your friends set you up with this time.

scanning the area, you only saw one guy that matched the seat the person you were supposed to meet sent you. two tables away from the counter, near the glass wall with a bouquet of flowers you were so familiar with— you were the one who arranged it.

your last customer? wonjin?

taking a deep breath, you stepped closer to his location. maybe you were running out of luck today, but maybe you can also consider yourself lucky that he stopped by your flower shop and not another, or else, you might be coming home with a funeral wreath.

"it's you?" wonjin asked upon spotting you. "y/n?"

you sat on the seat adjacent to him and nodded your head.

"oh, that's why they said my date likes flowers. it's because you're a florist." he placed his phone back in his pocket, a faint smile setting on his lips. "i'm not good with flowers though."

the remark made you reciprocate the smile. well, regardless of the abysmal taste he had, wonjin tried. "figured out you weren't. you almost gave me funeral flowers."

"i didn't know." a chuckle left his lips as he pushed the bouquet of sunflowers and gerberas in your direction. "so how about a refund?"

"a what?"

"refund," wonjin said. "you know, this is like me returning the bouquet to you so maybe you can give me a refund."

the glare you shot in his direction was enough to make him laugh. your reaction giving him a good height of amusement. "come on, y/n. i'm just kidding."
