Amaya POV
"The Bestla Wood?" Lucifer said as we rode on the train there. "Seems a little risky, don't you think?"
"What is the Bestla Wood?" I asked.
"Do any of you guys do your homework?"
We all looked at each other, then at him.
"Fine, the Bestla Wood is an enchanted forest. Every Sunday it starts snowing out of nowhere, on every other day of the week it's a dense jungle. The lay of the land shifts every month. And since this month is ending tomorrow, we'd best hurry."
"Does anyone know why it is this way?" Ava asked.
"No, but rumor has it that Phoenix's demigod friends Skrael and Nari have something to do with it."
Celeste and I glanced at each other for a quick second.
'Skrael and Phoenix aren't just friends.'
"Like Glamour said, if we're thinking about venturing into these woods, we are signing our own death warrant."
"In what way?" Celeste asked in a know-it-all way.
"Might I remind you that the ground shifts? Literally. The rock under our feet will peel up by itself and change. Why do you think no one's made maps of this place? Anyways, let's move on to the million dollar question. What the heck are we supposed to find here? Did anyone happen to think that all the way through? Or are we just wandering through the forest like mindless vagabonds?"
No one said anything.
"I guess all of you hope you'll stumble upon something, right?"
A few of us nodded.
"Well, I do hope you know that we have limited time and are running on a tight schedule."
The train's whistle blew, and it stopped. The nine of us stood up and went towards the train door. We climbed off and stepped into the snow.
"It feels weird on my feet," I said.
"It's supposed to," Lucifer said.
"Riddle me this, are we crazy?" Terri asked.
"Heck yeah, we are," Lucifer said with a slight grin.
We stepped into the forest.
"This is absurd! All of you think we're going to find something randomly?!"
"We've never been in these woods and neither have you! Do you think that we know everything, Lucifer? It's time you've stopped acting like it!" Wilbur said.
Everyone paused.
"So...the twit speaks," Lucifer said.
"Lucifer!" Cel said, angrily.
"What? He is a twit? I mean, come on! He can't even hold a sword without running off chasing a butterfly."
"That's because they're pretty!" Wilbur said.
"It's an insect. You can ask Ava to morph into them if you'd like. I just don't give a flip about you or your butterfly-demigod addiction."
"Are you always this snarky?" Cel asked, "Or do you suddenly become this way when your family isn't watching you?"
"At least your family doesn't abuse you!" Lucifer said. "So if you want to talk about families I suggest you talk about YOURS! You're lucky you can even say you have one."
"Priorities?" Ferd said.
"Don't talk to me about priorities!" Lucifer said.
"Isn't it dangerous for dark ones to get mad?" I said a little nervously.
