Cel's family took Proteus in. They said he could stay as long as he wanted, and by 'they' I mean Celestia. Even Cel was beginning to realize how suspicious her mother was attacking.

"Why are you here?" I asked, trying not to seem rude. But I need to know the answer. I'm sure we all did.

"Well, a few days after you left. Someone attacked the house and...killed Neptune and Onyx."

I looked at Cel who had a hand over her mouth. I tried to show how sorry I was, but it was hard considering Neptune was one of the cruelest people I've known.

"Did you recognize them?" Cel asked.

"I'm not sure I remember. They nearly killed me, too. Strangely they were asking for you, Lucifer. I have no idea why, but they seemed really determined. They destroyed the entire house while they were at it. It's gone. Nothing left but ashes."

"What are you talking about?" Rune asked from the stairs.

Cel politely shooed her away, and she quickly ran back upstairs. I'm not sure this really counted as an "adult" conversation, but to Cel's family it was.

I'm sure this could've been the moment where I should've hugged Proteus, but I wasn't feeling it. I sighed, stood up, and left. It wasn't the right thing to do. It really wasn't. I knew that. Everyone did. But I can never forget and will never forget all of the torturous moments I'd been through at the house. And there was nothing Proteus could say or do that would get me to forgive him.
