Phoenix POV:
I sat at my desk sketching a drawing of the dream I had last night. It was a unique dream. An unexpected dream. I felt that it meant something. In the dream, a cat and a wolf were locked in a dark room, and they were both terrified because a fire ant was flying above them. There was a fox and a deer as well, but they were elsewhere. The fox and the deer had been locked away in a warehouse and were trying to escape.
"Whatcha drawing?" Terri asked.
"A dream I had."
"How can you draw a dream?"
"You add enough detail so you feel like it has movement."
"Alright, but did you make sure to do the homework for Rune Lore?"
'We had homework for Rune Lore?!'
I gasped and quickly slid my notebook into my desk.
"That's not like you Phoenix; to not do homework," Lucifer said.
"I didn't even know we had homework!"
"It was on the board," Cheryl said.
"It was?"
"Yeah."
"Well, I didn't see it."
Everyone looked at the board, and all of the blurry items on it, then at me.
"Phoenix, you might need glasses," Lucifer said.
"Glasses?"
"You aren't too far away from the board. He's got a point," Cheryl said.
"No, I don't need glasses, and I'm not giving these fools another reason to bully me."
"Who are you calling a fool?" Reggie said, walking up to her. He held a football in his hand and was tossing it back and forth.
"The dummy standing in front of me," I answered.
"What do you want this time, Reggie?" Cheryl asked.
"Well, I was mainly looking for Lucifer."
"What the heck do you want?"
"Where's your girlfriend? Have you noticed?"
Lucifer raised an eyebrow.
"Since I've been the attentive one. I hope you noticed that I saw her crying in the bathroom earlier and hiding in the janitor's closet. What's that about? Break-up?"
"Reggie, if this school didn't not tolerate violence, you and your band of bastards would be flying out of a window every time you so much as spoke about me and my relationships."
"What a mouth you have!"
"That doesn't mean I'll make an exception when I see you everywhere else."
He turned around and then left the room.
"Now what were you drawing earlier, Phoenix?"
"My dream, Reggie, my dream."
"How do you draw a dream?"
"Make it realistic."
"Now what was your dream about? You know, I'd like to talk about my dream. I had a dream that the Arcane Order came to the school and start attacking people, and I destroyed them with just my pinky toe."
The other jocks behind him began laughing.
"I bet you Bellroc alone with Trifurcate Radiation and a chopped off arm could beat the everything out of you just by breathing."
Reggie rolled his eyes and walked away.
"Have you told Bellroc that you're getting bullied?" Cheryl asked.
"No, I have not."
"Why not?"
"I agree, this is starting to get based on your race rather than your looks."
"I don't want her to hurt anybody!" I lowered my voice. "The last thing I need is to prove their fears true."
Lucifer POV
I walked down the hall briskly while at the same time trying not to attract too much attention, which was hard since I was the only dark one in the whole school—talk about "unique". People would give me annoyed and nervous glances that I would answer with the good, ol' three finger salute. If you can't use magic, you might as well tell them to **** off without saying it. ...seriously...I'm not joking.
I knew exactly where Celeste was. Closest to the library with all of the floating books and exceedingly short librarians—or maybe I'm just tall—was the janitor's closet. Why did we have a janitor's closet when everyone in this school was a wizard? No clue. The janitor's closet was the perfect room to enter when you wanted to sever your ties with everyone else, sob your heart out, discuss family problems, or make out. To sum it up, it was the perfect closet to be in if you wanted to do something private. No one makes out in the bathroom anymore.
Despite the principal and janitor having told us several hundred times that the closet is off limits, there is no rule that they could ever establish that would keep us from entering it. That qualified for all other rules in the school. But if you knew someone who was going through something tough, and they ran out of the room, youro best option would be the janitor's closet. It was like a therapist in a room...so SCREW THE COUNSELOR!
Of course, I entered the room and found Celeste sitting with her head buried in her knees.
"Cel, you okay?" I asked.
She looked up at me and sighed. She then shook her head. I sat next to her and put my arm around her.
"We've made the biggest mistakes of our life, Lucifer."
"What?"
"I'm pregnant."
"WHAT?! Are you serious?"
She nodded.
"You know my aunt Sybil. I visited her yesterday. She did a blood test. It's true. I'm pregnant. I'm so sorry."
I still couldn't wrap my head around it. Celeste? Pregnant? What the heck would her mother say?
"What are we going to do?"
"We'll figure out something. I assure you."
"Will we? Mom's going to kill you. Literally."
Cel had a point there. Her mom hated my guts.
"This is all my fault."
"Darling, it's okay. It's okay."
"No, it's not! Phoenix and Cheryl were right. What are we going to do I can't have a baby! I'm freaking 16!"
"Cel, I'm sure we'll think of something. There's always an option."
"Is there?"
"There is always an option."
