Onyx POV
Lucifer came home late, but we didn't really care. He looked different though. For one thing, he changed his hair. Not in a big and exceedingly noticeable way, but he might've cut the split ends a little, and pulled the long strand of hair that fell in front of his right eye or what covered his eye, I guess.
"What happened to you?" I asked.
"Why do you care?" he said.
So I guess his personality wasn't that different. At dinner, however, Dad finally joined us. Thrax wasn't present, probably off joining some cult or whatever the heck he does at night. Kill people? Maybe. Lucifer didn't talk much at dinner. I'm not sure Dad wanted him to. However, he definitely noticed his odd-behavior.
"Lucifer," He said.
Lucifer might've said the f-word under his breath. I'm not sure. It was a cuss word that was for sure.
"What did you say?" Dad asked, not even looking up from the table.
Lucifer looked up at Dad. "Nothing, Proteus," he said.
Dad nodded, "What have you been up to at school? Everything alright with your studies?"
'Since when did Dad care about Lucifer's studies?'
"They're fine," Lucifer said.
"You seem troubled. Confused. What are you hiding from us?"
"Nothing," Lucifer said, "Today was a normal day as it always was."
I knew today was his birthday, but I didn't think Lucifer would treat it that way.
"Lucifer, we don't keep secrets in this family," Mom said.
"Alright then," Lucifer said, setting down his fork, "Then what's Proteus doing in the basement?"
Mom was about to speak, but Lucifer interrupted her.
"Well, go on. You said we don't keep secrets, then why is Proteus allowed to experiment in the basement with whatever the heck he wants to. Is that fair?"
"You dare-?" Dad began.
"Yes, I do dare. It's not fair that I can't keep secrets, but Proteus can. W-where is the equity in this?"
"Watch your tone," Proteus said through gritted teeth. "Now you're going to tell us why you've been late home, or else we're going to kill you."
"Mmm, child endangerment, great parents you two are."
'What was he doing?!'
"You really want to die, don't you?" Mom said.
"Hey, it's not my fault I kissed a light one."
Everyone gasped like they had been wounded or betrayed.
"Excuse me? You did what?!" Proteus shouted, standing up.
"I. Kissed. A light one and loved it. There, I said it."
"How dare-?"
"Alright, so it's fair that Thrax gets to wander off stealing stuff and murdering people with this strange women who calls herself the Evil Angel, but I can't live my life? Why the heck do you favourite everyone else in this family?!"
"You think I don't care? You've abandoned and betrayed all dark ones."
"Just because I can make my own decisions?! That's insulting to dark ones?! I love her! All of you suck!"
Dad paused. He balled his hand into a fist.
"Run," I mouthed.
Lucifer was still standing up, his hands already in fists. His eyes were narrowed, and that piece of hair that he'd pulled out of his face, had now covered his eye again. Dad and Lucifer were just staring at each other looking somewhat identically. Mom, at this point, looked like she was about to stand up too. I was the only one sitting down and feeling useless.
I was about to open my mouth before Dad lunged at Lucifer like a rabid cat. He dove for his neck and brought him to the ground smashing glasses and plates. I stood up and began backing away to the door but felt a slight urge to stay and watch. No one would miss Lucifer if he didn't make it. Not Mom. Not Dad. Not Thrax. Not me. Our family life would resume the way it had always been except with Lucifer, the Dark One who betrayed our family. I cheered on Dad in my head and watched as the two began battling. Mom sat at the table eyeing them with slight disgust. Dad slammed Lucifer against the wall and began beating him up. I smiled a little watching Lucifer get pulverized. You know, Thrax was going to miss seeing his younger brother get bloodied up. Lucifer stood up and threw Dad against the wall with his wing.
'All of this for a light one?' I wondered, looking at him angrily.
Dad threw Lucifer to the ground, and slammed his head against the floor until blood began to drip down his face. Lucifer still stood up. He clutched his shoulder which looked dislocated.
"Is that all you got?" he said with a grin.
Dad looked offended. He bit his lip and reached to grab Lucifer, but then stared into Lucifer's eyes. He lowered his eyes, and stormed out of the room. Mom followed him.
Lucifer POV
I glared at Onyx who gave me a look that couldn't have been less sorry. She gave me one last scowl before leaving the room. I looked at the table which was broken. Our family was broken. If I could even call it that. I apparted in my room and began packing everything I could. I stared at the house one last time and frowned at the place before flying off.
