"This is stupid," Luke pouted as Ashton helped him get ready for the night.

What would be an easy process done in a small room was now a complicated task.

The huge room that was prepared for Prince Michael was now divided in two, with a makeshift wall in between both beds. Still, there was no real privacy, so Michael sent Luke to get ready for the night before him.

"I hope you know that I do not condemn the prince's behavior," Ashton said while storing Luke's clothes in his travel chest. "However, I do agree your presence was not respected enough and your safety was not considered as well as his was."

"He will be a king one day, Ashton. He is an only son. I am well aware that I am a prince but I also do not expect the same treatment as he."

"You are much more important than you think you are prince. And your magic is proof of that."

Then, there was a knock on the door. "Goodnight, Ashton," Luke sighed.

"Come in," Ashton said before leaving Luke alone. "Goodnight, prince."

Luke climbed under the covers and was happy Michael and all of his company could not see him over the thick curtains.

It took a while before everyone left the room and as silence filled the room, Luke was afraid to breathe too loudly, not wanting Michael to hear him.

"Can we talk?" Michael asked softly.

"Michael, I am tired," Luke said. It was true, however, he also did not want to talk to Michael anymore.

"Please," The future king added, and Luke could both hear and feel the desperation in his voice.

Luke sighed and stood up. He didn't know how Michael wanted to do this but Luke needed to see his face. See him as he will lie to him once more.

Michael was obviously surprised when Luke showed up in front of his bed.

"Talk then," Luke tried to keep his gaze on Michael's face and not his collarbones lit by the candlelight.

"Thank you," Michael moved so Luke could seat at the end of the bed.

"I understand what your intentions were," Luke was the one to speak. "I know I'm a people pleaser and I know my heart is too good for the real world. But my family trusted yours to protect me, not to wound me."

"I know," Michael whispered, keeping his gaze on his lap. "And I truly am sorry Luke. I didn't know you then, I didn't know."

"Didn't know what?" Luke inquired. Michael said it had nothing to do with his magic, but why would Luke believe him?

"I didn't know how shy you were, I didn't know much you're afraid of disappointing your family. I wasn't aware of how much you wanted to be my friend. And how much it hurt when I was mean to you."

It hurt, knowing that someone could read his this easily. "You don't know me, Michael."

"I want to." Michael finally looked up. "It might be selfish for me to say it, but I'm happy I got to meet you now. Before you meet everyone else. Before you see the world. It's cruel out there. Yes, those people are my friends, they will one day be my enemies, one day I'll call some of them my family. But all of them know their place and the role they have to play and you don't. I'm happy I know you before I'll help you pick the role you want to play."
