It's not that the prince found his family's meetings boring, Luke just found it a waste of brain space to memorize things that did not concern him.
As the youngest son of King Andrew, at the young age of seventeen, he had no royal obligations to his family. His older brothers, on the other hand, were constantly traveling, having meetings, and writing letters.
Benjamin, his oldest brother, was the next in the line of succession and had been learning the ropes of the throne since he was eighteen. Jacque, the second oldest, was his brother's right hand. They were always together and Luke would not be surprised if they'd end up marrying sisters or worse, twins.
Lucas was the youngest son of King Andrew and Queen Elizabeth.
He was enjoying his last months of freedom before joining his brothers on the road to becoming a suitable royal. Luke still wasn't sure what his royal role would be and was afraid he'll be forced to marry well to stay a relevant part of his family.
"Maybe Luke should go," his brother suddenly said and got Luke's attention.
"Excuse me?" Luke asked and Jack rolled his eyes while Ben passed him the letter.
"We were invited to the wedding of Prince Lewis and Princess Katherine. The royal wedding is an important event; however, it is an important holiday in our kingdom and I don't think either father or I should miss it."
Luke understood what he meant. Luke was important enough to represent his family at a royal wedding but replaceable at his own kingdom's holiday.
Jack raised his eyebrow. "You do know who Prince Lewis and Princess Katherine are?"
Luke sent his brother a dirty look. Jack was a know it all who liked teasing and testing his younger brother.
"Princess Katherine is King Jonathan's youngest daughter, she also has an older brother, Prince Oscar, and two older sisters, Princess Julianne and Princess Felicity. Princess Felicity is the heir to her father's throne. King Jonathan is the king of Tasmania."
He could feel his father's look of approval.
"Prince Lewis is the heir to the throne of Victoria, he's an only child to King Frederick and Queen Stephanie." Luke smiled and showed a sandwich in his mouth.
"Show off," Jack whispered.
"Speaking of showing off, Lucas, how are your witchcraft lessons going?" King Andrew looked at Luke.
Having royal blood meant having magic blood. And opposite to the royal blood, the magic blood favored the youngest children, therefore, Luke had the biggest potential.
"It's going well. Mister Calum gave me some books to read on potions, we should start making them next week. He's taking me to the forest to see what is forgeable around the castle."
The king nodded. "Make sure you bring soldiers with you when you leave the premises."
"Potions?" Jack asked. "I had to spend months reading before I was allowed to touch anything."
Luke shrugged his shoulders.
"I couldn't even make a potion," Ben commented and smiled at Luke. "Good job, brother."
Luke who wasn't used to the attention blushed but still brought the topic back to himself to clear things up.
"Can we go back to the part, where you suggested I should go to the royal wedding? Alone? Not knowing anyone?"
Luke truly did not know many royals or nonroyals for that matter who didn't live in his kingdom. He rarely traveled and was not introduced to society yet as he was not eighteen.
On his eighteenth birthday, the king will throw a party in his name. Everyone important would be invited and after Luke was properly introduced to the higher circles, he would travel or do whatever his father would tell him to.
His mother finally spoke up. "You could go with prince Michael?"
Luke knew, in theory, who prince Michael was. However, he did not see the silver lining.
"Karen and I write to each other often. And we did talk about having Michael stay with us for a month or two. He could visit with us before the wedding and then he and Luke could attend it together. Michael is already introduced to the society and would know people at the wedding."
King Andrew who not only cherished his wife but also her connection to the queen of the largest kingdom in the country nodded in agreement. "It could work. I trust Daryl and Karen raised their son well and as long as Luke doesn't start a war with anyone, we'll be fine."
Everyone but Luke laughed.
"We've been to prince Michael's birthday party, he's pleasant and smart. I believe he'll make a good companion for Luke."
Luke felt betrayed as for probably the first time in his life, he did not have a say in a matter.
He knew it'd be selfish of him to even want to decline but it was too much pressure too soon.
"What if Michael says no?"
"I don't think he will, but if he does, Jack could probably go with you."
The prince didn't understand why this wasn't the first option.
"Don't be nervous sweety," his mother squeezed his hand after the meeting was over. "I'm sure Michael will agree and I just know you two will make great friends."
Luke kissed the queen's cheek and smiled.
"I just hope he won't hate me."
