warning: boys touching boys

A carriage, even a royal one, was not meant for two boys to sit as close as the princes were.

The difference between the ride to the wedding and the one back was like night and day. While Luke wanted to be as far away from Michael as before, now it seemed like they couldn't be closer.

He was sitting on his lap and read Michael the letters he received before he left the castle.

"I told you that you were going to have a lot of people inquiring about you," Michael smiled and kissed his cheek.

"But I still only want you," Luke smiled and turned so he could properly kiss him.

The older boy hugged him closer but stayed silent.

"I won't fall in love with anyone else, I won't be with anyone else either, just so you can feel better."

Michael sighed. "I know it's not fair of me to ask, but I just want you to be sure, Luke."

After a minute Luke asked. "Is it because you want to be with other people?"

"Luke," Michael said sternly and turned him around. "No. I told you. I know I want you. But you need to understand me, you've never been with anyone else, maybe you'll find out you want someone who doesn't treat you like you don't exist because of their own problems."

"Okay," Luke agreed. "So, I go on one social visit and then–"

"No, Luke." Michael kissed his curls. "If you'll still feel the same for your birthday–"

"My birthday?" Luke interfered. "That's six months away."

"That's the next time we'll see each other again," Michael gently added.

He wanted to cry. Or pack himself into Michael's suitcase and leave with him.

"Luke?" Michael asked quietly.

"Well, at least we have this week and then, and I don't care what your opinion is, but we will write to each other all the time."

"I promise," The future king squeezed him. "But Luke, we don't have an entire week. Tomorrow, we go our separate ways."

"What? No, we have at least two more days to get home, and there is no way you won't rest at least a day and–"

"I'm not coming back to your home with you, I thought you knew the schedule, we sleep at the same place as we did on our way here and then go separate ways tomorrow. A carriage and knights will be waiting for you."

Luke didn't know that. Maybe he did, but it didn't matter before when Michael was leaving. Now it was the only thing that mattered.

"I don't want you to go home," Luke whispered.

"I don't want to go either," Michael said. "I wrote to my mother, asking if I can stay but I'm needed at home. The future king and all." He half-joked.

"Thank you for trying," Luke glued himself to his lover now, not wanting to be separated.

"Michael? You said your parents know and are okay with you... liking men. But what if you won't want to marry a princess? How would that work? Would you still be a king?"
